When she was 19 she left her home and traveled to New York. While she was there, she realized she could make more money and get better rights if she disguised herself as a man. She changed her name to Lyons Wakeman. Army recruits asked her is she would want to join the army and bribed her with a $152.00 entry reward.She accepted and while she was in the army she wrote letters home informing her parents about her experiences. One of the men accused was George Burroughs. He was accused by alleged witches of being their mastermind and "leader". People claimed that during his trial he was biting them. They looked at the bite marks and determined that they did belong to Burroughs. People, not just the accusers, said there was the presence of spirits in the room. One girl even said they were the spirits of George's deceased wives, thirsting for justice.
