The name of our opening sequence is "obsession", our title fits with the typical convention for a thriller genre film because of the short one worded name of the film. This is similar to real life thriller genre film titles, such as those of Seven, Momento and Inception. All of these follow the typical convention of the short title. The name of our opening sequence fits with our genre of a psychological thriller because the title reflects the mental state of the main male character and also reflects what is happening in the film itself, it tells the audience a small amount of information but holds back the crucial information, leaving them asking questions, this makes the audience want to watch the film to find out what is happening, this is also typical of a thriller genre film. The codes for our title show the dark side to the film, giving the audience an insite as to what the film symbolises and the codes help us to do that through the title. The title for our opening sequence used and developed on the conventions of the thriler genre as we used the one worded title with big fonts.

The setting and location for our opening sequence was predominantly based in a old cellar below a run down building, we chose this location as we felt that it would best accommodate the feel we wanted to achieve with our opening sequence and we thought that it would be a location that could best represent the genre of our opening sequence. This is a location typical of a thriller especially an abduction because of the the isolated abandoned setting. This is why we used this location. The location suggests to the audience that the kidnapper is clever and has thought of a hide out where no one can find him or the girl, isolating himself from the rest of society. The windows being covers suggests that inside the location the cellar is dark and dindgey as therein no way that light can get inside, suggesting to the audience that it is the perfect place for an abduction.

It gives the audience the excitement of the unexpected this links in with the codes and conventions of a psycholohical thriller as it gives the sence of the unknow, we used this with in our opening sequence and tried to develope upon the conventions to give our opening sequence a edgy and mysterious feel to it that used the codes related with psychological thrillers.

Location two - the grave yard

Another location that we used in our opening sequence was a grave yard. This location is typical of a thriller film because of the negative emotions and vibes it gives off, as well as giving a creepy feel. We shot the angle of this shot like this to give a secretive/eerie feel to the shot, that its taken from behind the grave stone like the camera is hiding. This almost like the abductor is being watched, making you question his actions and why e is in the grave yard in the first place. This location leaves the audience asking many question. The grave yard location used to codes of a thriller genre as it symbolises death, this is also a typical convention of a thriller genre film as creepy locations are always used in psychological thrillers. However, the use of the grave yard challenges the conventions of a psychological thriller as grave yards are not commonly used in the psychological thriller genre. Other films that used the grave yard as a location in the film include soul mate and also the oman. Both these films are psychological thrillers and they are only 2 of a few psychological thrillers that use this type of location, this subverts the conventions and codes of a psychological thriller as it is unexpected.

We decided that it would be best to have the kidnapper wearing dark clothes and to have his face covered by the hoodie to make the abductor wear dark clothing, this was so that the character would have is personality hidden and to show. We decided on the costume of a black hoodie and blue jeans to give connotations of a lower social status, making him seem as a lower class citizen.
We used pictures of a girl to create a shrine like image on the wall, placing candles at the bottom of it. This adding to the theme of obsession, as this giving the impression to the audience that he misses this girl and also leaves them asking who the girl was and allows them to start to work out the links between dates, the grave yard and this girl aswell as the audience wondering who the girl is in the basement. Him creating this shrine to obsess over her. This is something which can be seen in psychological thrillers more than other thrillers but is not a common feature of the genre.

However we do allow the victims face to be seen on one of the shots. We used a high angle camera angle, using side lighting to highlight the girls face and to show the pale skin reflecting in the light to show her youth and vulnerability. This would be typical of a thriller genre as the shot type makes the victim look weak and helpless, also giving the impression that someone bigger is towering over them.

We felt this font would work well to the back ground of the title sequence, which is a number of pictures and news articles that link with the story line of the opening sequence, this is commonly used in crime thrillers so we though that it would be a good and creative idea to use in our opening sequence.

The story of our opening sequence is that the abductors girlfriend has died and he decides to stalk and kidnap a girl due to her similarity of looks to the girl that died, planning to kill her the way his girlfriend was killed. Also planning to kill her on the same day his girlfriend was killed but a year on. This making our film a psychological thriller. This is a typical story of a psychological thriller due to the strangeness of the storyline making it psychotic and the abduction is very typical.
For the opening of the film we used the abductor walking into a graveyard. This is to give the audience the idea that someone has died and it is affecting the man. Visiting her grave is something which is very silent, and the music starts to gradually increase once he is inside the graveyard and afterwards out of it in the cellar. This showing the audience that there is some kind of link between the two locations and the people that are implied to be in them. Through research of looking at psychological thrillers a basement is used very often such as in 'The Call' when the ending scene is in the basement where the abductors base is. Even though you would expect a graveyard to be used a lot, it is not used very much in psychological thrillers.

One that has died and one that he has kidnapped. He is the first character we see in the opening sequence with him entering the grave yard wearing dark basic clothing, this being a black hoodie and blue jeans. This gives the audience the impression that he a lower class citizen through the clothing as well as displaying mystery through keeping his hood up the whole time. The dark clothing also connotes mystery and isolation aswell as presenting him as a bad character.
