With the recent decision to require cameras on, I have seen more involvement with the material and interaction with discussions. I feel this is enhancing understanding of the standards.

My biggest challenge includes motivating students to complete assignments during independent time. This is especially difficult for the Project Based Learning activities that are a big part of our class.

What is going well: Students have been working on constructing models of sound waves and have really impressed me with the explanation of their model. They have been connecting new concepts of sound to real-life situations.

My biggest challenge has been to get every single student engaged in the materials. There seems to be a few in each class who do not respond to messages in the chat or asking them to come off the mic. I am hoping sending home weekly progress reports will help motivate students to engage in the classwork.

Several of my students who struggled with completing/turning in assignments in Q1 showed improvement in their attentiveness, work ethic, and sense of personal responsibility this quarter, achieving higher scores.

Class engagement is mixed and fairly entrenched. Most students show up, pay attention, and post responses to questions in the chat. Others never do, and seem to be openly watching or playing something else during class. Some students have shown off their video game systems on camera during class.

Going well: most of my students that actually come to class are engaged in the class! Challenges: There are a few students who log into class then don't respond/engage at all. Since I'm not physically there, I can't do anything about it. I also want to be present for my other students that are engaged and responsive.

Going well:
I think my rapport with my high school students has definitely strengthened over the second quarter. Most students who attend regularly are passing quarter 2, and in many cases, with much better marks than quarter one. I have one kid that once laughed at the prospect of caring first quarter who unfortunately got an F in Q1 getting a B this quarter and regularly participating and thanking me for my lessons and help.

Since I'm new, I struggled at first with pacing instruction and classwork, and so this quarter contained a little more work than last, and students not only stepped up to the slightly increased frequency of deadlines, they produced better work and became more proficient in the content.

I've had to make a few changes to my structure and grading policies, as I've become more familiar with PBL. For example, I first I felt pretty worried about doing away with graded quizzes, and making them more of a self assessment kind of thing but it really worked out beautifully.

Kids are showing much less anxiety about quizzes and their projects because of reassessment opportunities and project workshopping sessions.

What's not going so well:
Attendance has been an issue, and when I call parents they are generally very surprised to hear their kid has never even met me.

Plagiarism has also been pretty bad.

It's been tough to get kids to actually come to class regularly, and to incentivize it. A couple kids have figured out that it is indeed possible to pass without coming much.

The thing that is going well is adapting activities to get more engagements. The rapports are increasing especially with the ones that participates.
Struggles: The students that just login and do nothing or the ones that don't even do that. It's difficult to to get those students to engage in the practice, but they get frustrated with their scores.

I've noticed more engagement 3rd quarter than 1st and 2nd. One thing I'm doing different is taking about 5 minutes at the beginning of class to make sure all students are logged into the lesson (Nearpod/google forms etc.) If they are not in the lesson I have them share their screen and get there. This has resulted in more assignments getting done and turned in.

Just like the other comments, I have students who don't log in or come for half a day or log in and then never engage. When I call on them to share their screen or answer a question I'm met with silence. I do not know if they are there or if they are just ignoring me. It is hard not to be physically present with them.
