Dear DF 13The poster reflection was able to transport my constructs beyond my own local organisation to overseas. It made me a view ethical leadership and human flourishing. An important ethical value that was noted in the poster was that all patients were treated equally. My take home thought from your poster is to honour this ethical principle in working with families in my work place. The images of the women seemed to use a soft touch lens which gives a peaceful touch.Thank you for this learning.Mary Jane26/09/2017

You guys got a very different and fascinating post here, what an excellent work for the strategy of change in the rural state of Pakistan! I think we could also use your work in Australia as well, especially in Australia rural areas, and the strategy you provided in your poster could be well implemented in Australia rural healthcare. However, there are some barriers must be considered with these strategies. I will list some barriers as follows.

First, like the rural area in Pakistan, the limitations of demographic, socioeconomic, cultural and environmental variables in rural areas lead to differences and barriers in the healthcare (Weinhold & Gurtner, 2014). Secondly, there is also resistance to change in some rural communities with financial struggles, which in relation to reduced Commonwealth funding (Bourke, Humphreys, Wakerman & Taylor, 2012). Last but not least, the number of rural healthcare services are declining across Australia in last two decades, which put more economical, psychological, social and cultural strain on rural residents (Tran, Longman, Kornelsen & Barclay, 2017). All these issues are contributed to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’s poor health outcomes and shorter life expectancy (Bourke et al., 2012).

In summary, we could not achieve our desired changes if we do not consider all these barriers when applying your strategies in Australia.

Thank you

Xu Chen 29/09/2017

Reference

Bourke, L., Humphreys, J., Wakerman, J., & Taylor, J.

What an exceptional poster presentation! The real life application of leadership concepts caught my attention.
With my previous working experience in developing countries as well as western countries, I can understand the issue of resource allocation and the dilemma of working with people who need health education. The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC, 2014) described lack of health literacy as a significant barrier to patient involvement in care and therefore poor health outcome. This can be challenging for health care professionals as leaders.
The actual photograph taken in Pakistan was extraordinary and made me realize how I can be an effective leader in Australia with better resources and health care system.
The content was comprehensive although succinct information may be easier to comprehend. Otherwise, the overall poster is informative and thought-provoking...
Well done!
Reference
Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (2014).
Good work, DF13. I have seen this narrative before in another unit - or a very similar narrative and it is an excellent 'role model' for how effective leadership and team work can achieve great outcomes in terms of health and/or social improvement. It was also good to see the narrative taken a step further and presented in poster format. Next step is an individual critical analysis Defining your terms early was good (intervention), it is always a good idea to define terms early. For your final paper, you will need to focus on different points of analyses or base your initial reflection on the way content was presented here with further analysis of major components. For example, the issue of health literacy identified by your peer Judith could be further expanded and included - how would a leader enhance health literacy for this population group? While the idea of human flourishing was very evident in your content, the linkage between leadership practices, human flourishing and leadership theory could be strengthened in your analysis. You could also (or one of you) could go into more depth about the impact of global leadership on both developing and developed nations. Read through the peer comments as these will also assist you in forming a well-structured individual analysis for your final assessment task. Finally, only one group member has advised that they have read Netiquette, which was part of the Assessment task. A group posting here on this wall with this advice would be fine.

Well done on posting such an unusual and thought provoking padlet.
In nursing, which is a predominantly female profession, there are pragmatic realities related to stereotyping, bias and prejudice about women as leaders. Khan (2012) suggests that healthcare workers in Pakistan, especially among nurses are in shortage, and lack or respect or recognition for their skill and leadership behaviours may be an element for poor retention rates.
Also global literacy and globalisation in healthcare play a huge part in leadership. Comparisson to practice in Australian Healthcare would have been beneficial to your poster.
With the increasing ease of travel, commmunication and on-line learning, educational pathways are becomming more prominant.
Good Luck with Assessment task 3
Jessica McKirkle

Khan, A.B., (2012) The Indus Hospital: Delivering Free Health Care in Pakistan. Harvard Business Publishing.

Post by Veronika Allen.
This poster to me reflected the ethical responsibility we as healthcare workers have to help others in gaining access and receiving the care they need. As the posters content was based on a culture very different to my own, it helped me gain an understanding of the difficulty women in third world countries face in receiving what we in a western country would consider our basic right. The content also highlighted the need for continued change, education and sharing of information, open communication, and cooperation from all staff members, The use of relevant pictures also demonstrated the underlying message of caring for others.
Thank you for sharing.

Good work DF 13
The breakdown of your mark is:
Poster appearance 12/20
Poster Content 52/60
Good work and it is clear that quite a bit of effort has gone into this poster. However, there is a bit too much content. As per my advice a little while ago, if you can imagine yourself at a professional conference with only limited time to read every poster on display, you will gravitate to the posters that are able to ‘get their message across’ much more succinctly. It would also be difficult to read the ‘strategy’ and ‘intervention’’ sections due to the dark text on dark background. A few grammatical errors tend to detract, for example, “all people were benefited …”, Instead of “things required” perhaps, ‘Resources required’, and ‘turned things in our favour’ cold be rephrased, for example, led to the change achieving fruition or similar, more scholarly wording. However, good work and good team effort.
In regard to marks for peer review, those who scored higher on peer review did so because their peer review comments made a scholarly contribution to the poster content and was relevant to leadership issues within a health care environment. Students with higher marks on peer review tended to write comments that were designed to support the improvement of the other group’s work (scholarly contribution) rather than provide general commentary on what they liked about the poster. Commentary that was brief without strong evidence of constructive feedback did not attract high marks.
Katya and Sue 031017
