Advertisements are all around us. They are on billboards,tv, and even our phones. Ads play a big role on society and what they will buy. Brands also play a huge role on people. Some people like Pepsi over Coke, two different brands. Coke and Pepsi have a very similar taste but people will argue that one is way better than the other. There are ads that have bias to them. For example before people were allowed to smoke inside public places and it was normal. Now when I see ads about smoking, they are pointing out that it is bad for health and it is prohibited from smoking cigarettes inside.

I sometimes wonder why do people behave in bad ways and commit acts such as drugs, rape, and murder. There is always a hidden answer as to why. As humans, our minds tend to function in many ways, and they are always working hard by thinking. I always wonder if we are the only species like this or are animals also evil? It is interesting the job that sociologists have and how much they can discover from research they do.

Prisons are getting overcrowded, and with the number of felons increasing each year. I read in the book that blacks have a higher chance of being incarcerated. But why is that?
It can be difficult for people with criminal records to get a job after being released.I have heard there is programs to help felons who are let out and help them get jobs. The book also mentioned how white felons are more likely to get called back from a job than a black felon. This is a racist thing that employers do and things need to change.

I went to a coffee shop that is close to my house. This coffee shop is right by the college and they gym I go to. I did see a few people hanging out, as they do have outdoor seating normally. I did not notice strangers talking to each other. I saw one person by themselves. I saw both young and older people there. There is also a donut shop next door that many go to as well.

There are millions and millions of people, yet every single person is different in their own way. I always found it super fascinating how there are people who have look alikes and they indeed look very similar. We can choose what part of ourselves we show others. At work I might act a certain way that I do when I am with family or friends. We tend to buy things that represent who we are and that also can give people an idea of our self.

The U.S. is known for mass consumption. I myself enjoy shopping here and there but I cannot and will not shop when the lines are super long or it is super full like Black Friday, which we might not even have this year. My closet keeps getting full even though I did get rid of some clothes. Yet sometimes I tell myself that I have nothing to wear. It is interesting how before people used to buy just the things they needed such as tobacco, coffee, or tea and trade too. All of that has changed now.

I agree with the fast-food campaign demands for $15 and their right to unionize. Fast food workers are important and there is always people going to eat. It is not fair that they are being asked to work hours that they do not work and they need set schedules too for those who have children or those who cannot be on call duty. Factors that might discourage unionization is that employers might fire those workers or they might punish the hours they work but the workers might accomplish their work if they unionize.
