There is enough clothing already produced. Simply by integrating business models which allow for waste to be reintroduced to the supply chain allows for developments in the following:
Economic Success: by allowing manufacturers to reduce costs in material consumption and retain ownership of goods produced.
Innovation: innovation in recycling technologies can be expected as by allowing products to be maintained by producers, quality and durability of clothing will become of higher significance.

Ethics should always be a central factor in any business activity. These 3 areas have the most significance to me in the fashion industry:
Animal Welfare:
Production of clothing should not rely on cruelty to animals.
Environmental Responsibility:
The fashion industry is one of the largest polluting industries in the world. Continued operations of business activity in this manner will result in an environmental crisis beyond that of future generations control. We need to see the change now.
Social Protection:
The fashion industry has equally become famous for its neglection of social rights. All employees should be entitled to fair pay, working conditions and respect.

Education is critical to allowing change in the fashion industry. Within this, i believe it is critical that businesses show transparency and educate their consumers on what really goes into creating their clothing. This includes:
-WHO makes the clothing and how they are treated.
-WHERE clothing is made and why this is the case (are they exploiting cheap labor).
-WHAT goes into clothing, including chemicals which may be environmental damaging.
-WHY is sustainably made clothing of value to consumers.

In particular i believe that it is the WHY question which has the most limited attention given and that this needs to change to educate consumers into why they should spend more for the extra value in the product they receive (through longer life spans, quality and durability).

Respect Nature

I have just received my degree from the University of Exeter in Cornwall. I truly believe that my exposure to this natural beauty has transformed my values to consider nature to be the most important thing for businesses to consider.
The speed at which fashion is being produced and discarded has no respect for the natural environment. Resources are being extracted at an intolerable rate and being unnecessarily wasted after limited use.
In doing so, ecosystems and natural environments face irreversible destruction to feed consumer demand. This is something i truly believe needs to change as Yvon Chouniard recently stated, there is no business to be done on a dead planet.
