Founder of Giornale and later CEO of Starbucks. "I always wanted to do something to make a difference."-Howard Schultz. Howard Shultz started his coffee career working for Starbucks and then he started a coffee company called II Giornale and later bought the original Starbucks in Seattle for $3.8 million dollars. He was born very poor in Brooklyn, New York. Shultz was very determined, however and vowed to be rich some day. He ended up with a scholarship at Northern Michigan University. After college, he worked at Xerox co. and noticed how the Starbucks Company in Seattle was buying a lot of expresso machines and wanted to check it out. Long story short, the company was impressed by him and offered him a high level job, which he took. Later he left and started his own coffee business, II Giornale, and later bought the business from the previous Starbucks owners.

Howard Shultz is very proud of what he has created. He says that his dad was a blue-collar worker. He didn't have health insurance or benefits, and I saw firsthand the debilitating effect that had on him and on our family. I decided if I was ever in the position to make a contribution to others in that way, I would. My greatest success has been that I got to build the kind of company my father never got to work for."

Important Traits
Some important traits of Howard Shultz are his ability to apply foreign situation to his own work. He was inspired by how Italians consumed their coffee and applied that to his shop. He was also extremely motivated especially since he grew up poor. A skill Shultz had is his ability to expand business. Starbucks now has over 11,000 locations in the U.S. because of Shultz's eye to expand.

"Howard Schultz". WME|IMG Speakers.

Founder of the Hershey Foods Corp.
"Give them quality. That's the best kind of advertising in the world." (Hershey).

Unlike the cold-hearted businesspeople of his time, Milton Hershey offered his employees well paying jobs and good working conditions. Thus, inspiring love and loyalty in his employees. Hershey's perseverance brought him success in the long run as he did not give up after attempting to start businesses in Denver, Illinois, Louisiana and New York. He finally settled down in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His determination to succeed was evident when he sold his original caramel making company to switch full time to Hershey Chocolate Co. Hershey created a place for his employees that gave them affordable housing while creating a community that sprouted into a successful and healthy town. He valued his employees second to none, so when the Depression hit the U.S., Hershey made sure his employees were taken care of. Overall, Hershey's determination, love and perseverance led him to be a very successful, innovative and appreciated businessman.

Milton S. Hershey.

Founder of McDonald's Corp
"The definition of salesmanship is the gentle art of letting the customer have it your way."-Ray Kroc

Mr. Kroc was a competitive man as he wanted to change the way that people had fast food. The best word to describe him is prosperous, as recent surveys have shown that every 1 in 8 americans has worked at a McDonald's at some point in their lives. That is good because that means that with more people working, that there would be more chances for there to be an expand his business. He was good at growing his business in a positive way, that people found good opportunities to work at his company. Not only did he do that but he also opened more than 25,000 restaurants worldwide. Another good word to describe him is unforgettable. The reason I have picked this word, is because he changed the world of fast food because he made sure that all of his food would taste the same no matter where you were in the world, and he was successful at doing that. It changed the way that people looked at fast food restaurants, because who wouldn't want their McChicken to taste the same in New York as it would in Japan? Lastly, the most important skill that Kroc had, was that he gave the people what they wanted, and more. Kroc knew how to satisfy his customers by giving them multiple food options and at price that everyone could pay for. He also gave them more by having specialty items that came around the holidays and even some items that were only available at certain locations.
A5.files.biography.com. N. p., 2016. When other companies looked away from the more eccentric athletes, Knight was happy to scoop them up and let them be themselves. John Mcenroe is a great example, as he was one of Knight’s first big sponsors for Nike, and instead of telling Mcenroe how to act, he let him be himself, one the greatest personalities in sports.

Skill: Marketing

Nike is the gold standard for sports marketing, as Knight essentially created the "star" athlete. Sponsorships make the athlete, and Knight had a way of getting his clients into the public. Nike's slogan "Just do it" and the Jordan logo have basically made what we know of Nike. While these advertisements make the athletes out to be gods, Nike still inspires young athletes themselves to be just like the ones in the commercials.

"Philip H. Knight 1938–." Philip H. He has a net worth of $49.2 billion. Growing up he was continuously told by his adoptive father that he was good for nothing, proving his resilient nature. When he started Oracle his intention was not to become rich, he simply wanted to be happy where he worked. He is confident, a good listener & communicator, determined, good leader, humorous, and charismatic, which makes him a good salesman. Ellison is also obviously very thoughtful and was known to just disappear for a few days and return with new ideas. But he is probably most recognized for his competitive attitude and approach. When trying to innovate and experiment he would assign two different teams to compete against each other in the same task.
