Their monologue takes up majority of the poem, with 29 lines.
Yet they aren't angry at each other. The second character explains his anger and feeling of hopelessness and disregard for the war, not towards the opposing force whom he meets in hell. Character two's aggressive tone is aimed at the reality of war, not the concept or the other countries fighting.

Along with this, there doesn't seem to be a rhyming scheme. Although most lines do have pararhymes such as: 'friend, frowned' and 'killed, cold', there are no direct rhymes like 'cat and bat'

Enjambment is used more frequently and for longer periods of time. After the first four lines of stanza 3, the poem shifts in perspective to the soldier from the other side of the battle, who provides his own perspective of the war and how he feels in his position. This takes another drastic change in the final stanza of the poem when it shifts back to the original narrator, where he expresses willingness to move on from the recent events by referring to the other soldier as ‘my friend’, showing the solidarity all soldiers face regardless of sides due to the situation they are forced into, the shared trauma they will face, and the final moment of peace they share as they finally escape in death.
