in concert and live footage

thirty seconds to mars: closer to the edge.
in concert/ live footage refers to the use of a live performance as part of the video.
to make this music video they used a lot of different techniques, they included interviews from fans throughout the video as well as using creating time lapses of concerts in different countries they toured. they also introduced the band and included a lot of behind the scenes shots from the tour.
the video only uses a couple of cameras as there are really not many different shots included in it. there is usually a camera at the back of the crowd to show the stage from a fans point of view then there is a camera on the stage filming the band playing. the video shows a lot of the crowd and the fans showing that they are having a good time and enjoying the show and the music.
i think the music video was successful because it gives the viewers an insight of what it would be like at a thirty seconds to mars concert as well the song telling its own story and the fans adding in some commentary of advice and opinions.
the audience have a positive attitude towards this video, a lot of the comments on the video have said that it makes them cry due to the power and meaning behind the song, a lot the audience have also said about how someone else in their family would listen to this music and thats how they got into it. the audience like the video as it shows the concerts and the fans enjoying themselves it gives the audience an insight into the concerts and what they are like.

impressionist

red hot chili peppers- cant stop.
an impressionist music video can be used to make the viewer/ audience feel a certain way and will use seemingly unrelated, random and peculiar shots to express the themes of the video.
this video uses quite a lot of random shots that have nothing to with the lyrics, however the lyrics of the song are quite random as well. the filming is done by multiple cameras, mostly during the shots of the band performing but the shots of random objects are created mostly using just one camera. this shows more basic shots in the video which adds to the randomness of the video as they are just basic shots of things like bins and water bottles as well as some basic shots of the band doing things with the objects which makes no sense at all.
i think the music video is successful because it is so random, the audience do no expect to see random shots of water bottles and bins, they also do not expect to see the band doing random things. it was also filmed quite basically with just the band in a studio or warehouse, the video shows the band having fun while making the video which also makes the audience a bit more happier while watching it.
the audience perceive the music video as weird and completely random which makes them love the music video as it is quite energetic and fits with the energetic theme of the song. the video also fits with the band as they are also quite random and energetic especially when performing.

surrealist

calvin harris- feels
a surrealist music video is a video which features artificial and unreal elements in it. this could be artificial characters or set moving artificially. it can often be compared to a dream like affect.
this video uses a lot of resources and techniques, this video uses chroma key to create the backgrounds as well as getting rocks and sand and flowers and other greenery into the studio to create different scenes for each artist features on the track. the video does not use many cameras and includes quite basic shots, however it does use a jib/ crane on some of the scenes with Pharrell to create a birds eye view, they also use a track and dolly to create some of the movements, other than that not much is used for the filming but they used a lot of lighting to create the scenery, for example the changing colour of the water, this would have been done by putting different coloured lights in the water.
i think this video was successful because of the outgoing vibrancy of it, people want to watch the video because it is so weird and they don't fully understand the concept of the video, the fact that it is weird makes people want to watch it and talk about it.
the audience perceives the music video as weird and difficult to understand as it does not have any meaning to it nor does it actually have anything to do with the song or the lyrics. some of the people that i have talked to do not actually like the video that much because it is weird and does not make any sense, however reading the comments on youtube a lot of the audience is there for pharrell and Katy perry, they don't actually care for the song, video or even the artist that has made the song.
