The first chapter of the book began with the quote ''The Way We Were; The Way We Are, it mentioned the ''first wave'' as the women's rights activism which started in the middle of nineteenth century and cresting in 1920. Begins the most fundamental right of citizenship, the vote.
The book remark the huge changes that have been happening, for example in 1960s married women could not borrow money in their own names. Fortunately through the years, women have been acquiring the same rights as men.
