The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge was the first bridge built over the Yangtze River. The bridge was the first double-track highway bridge created by the Chinese without other engineering resources. The river is a very important source of transportation. There are 2 layers within the bridge. The upper layer is for cars and other vehicles, and the bottom is for trains. The highway is 6,772 meters long. In certain places underneath the bridge, there are beautiful flowers and trees planted underneath it.

Just from the movement of water, turbines start spinning, creating energy and power for the places around it. The Three Gorges Dam is one of the largest construction projects in the world, and it has been known to have changed the appearance of the Yangtze River since it was built.

The Zhaozhou Bridge is one of the most remarkable bridges in Ancient China. This bridge was a very advanced design and is very strong. The bridge is made out of stones and is very supportive.

The Great Wall of China was built to protect from several nomadic groups, which were from Europe and Asia. It also helped defend the empire from invasions. The Great Wall of China, or the "Ten-Thousand Mile Long Wall," was not only used for protection, but it was also used for trading along the silk road, and border control. After the wall was built, watchtowers were added to enhance transportation. Before bricks were used, the wall was built from stones and wood. During the Ming Era is when bricks were mainly used, so the rest of the wall was built with bricks. This allowed the construction process to become faster. They stuck bricks together with something called Sticky Rice Mortar, which is a substance made with sticky rice soup and slaked lime. There is a theory that the Great Wall of China can be seen by the moon, but it cannot be seen with the naked eye.

The Taklamakan Desert is northwest of China. In folk etymology, the desert is known as the "Place of No Return." During the wintertime, the desert's temperature can go below -4 degrees Fahrenheit; in the summer, the temperature can get up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. For a desert, this is pretty low. The Taklamakan Desert has a cold desert climate because it lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas. Though it lies in the 'rain shadow', the desert is very dry. This made it hard for people to trade and travel through. There were a few oasis towns within the desert. Merchants would stop and take a break near these towns to relax during their long trip.

The Gobi desert helped protect China from the outside invaders. The Gobi desert isn't sandy at all! it is mostly covered with bare rocks. The weather can be cold and hot. The Gobi desert used to be under the sea and is still expanding these days. The Gobi desert is important because it supports globally -significant wild lands and wildlife.

The Lugou bridge, (also known as the Marco Polo Bridge,) is a bridge made of stone. The bridge is well known because of a Venetian named Marco Polo. He praised the bridge so highly that it became known as the Marco Polo bridge. Around this area, an incident called the Marco Polo Bridge Incident happened around the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War. (1937-1945) The incident caused more problems and disagreements, which eventually resulted in conflict. After the incident, the bridge was no longer a sign of peace. Eventually, the damage of flooding called for a rebuilding of the bridge. Now, The Marco Polo Bridge is known as an architectural masterpiece.
