Our group intends to do this by setting up upcycling seminars for those living in poverty to give them more income opportunities. We foresee two benefits from these seminars. First, because it is expected that they won’t earn that initially, they would not need to give up buying goods in single-use plastics right away. We recognize the importance of “tingi” goods to their survival. Instead, they could turn them into something that is useful for them. In addition to this, upcycled goods can be sold to others as well. This brings us to the second benefit which is to empower them to take part in the circular economy. 

Unlike other efforts where plastic alternatives are simply introduced with the hope that marketing tactics would encourage everyone to commit to a more sustainable lifestyle, we are advocating for an approach that is more feasible in the Philippine context; acknowledging their economic constraints.
