How did the Civil War start?

1. Fort Sumter was the first battle site of the US Civil war. A Union base was located in South Carolina and was attacked on by Confederate troops who claimed the fort as theirs. President Lincoln ordered the Union troops not to fire back because he did not want to start the first civil war so the Fort was easily taken over by the South.
2.Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written about the harsh realities of life as a salve on a southern plantation. This book was read by many northerners and sparked a deep outrage for the use of Slavery in the South.
3. The actual use of Slavery divided our country further into two since the North did not support its use while the South deemed it to be a necessity on the plantations.
4. Economic differences sparked separation of our country because the north relied on the transportation of the railways while the south was based on farming. The north was often more technologically advanced compared to the south and held 9 out of 10 of the major cities of the country.
5. The Election of 1860 divided the country because many Southern leaders did not want Lincoln to become President for fear he would end slavery.

1. The first action by the British that outraged the English settlers was a Tea Act. This lowered the price of tea so much that it was not profitable anymore.
2.Stamp Act was a tax put onto legal documents, this outraged the people because the British did not have to pay the same tax.
3. Townsend Acts were taxes put onto glass, paper lead and a lot of other goods that the English people used daily.
4. The Boston Massacre outraged the settlers because 5 of "their people" were killed by British soldiers in America.
5. The Intolerable Acts are when the King closed all ports in America to all ships except British ones forcing the settlers to have to buy goods from only the British.

The prosperity of the 1920s was superficial because even as businesses prospered, not everyone did. Businesses like the Railroad and Iron ranges had reduced wages for their workers. There was a large pay gap between managers and workers. Too many goods bought on credit instead of money actually being put directly into the businesses.
