Task 1: Consider the points raised in the provocation. As a small group, you have 30 minutes to plan a response. You might agree with core principles in the provocation, but it cannot simply repeat them (although that would be a great example on uncritical, mindless education!). You will have 3 minutes to present your argument. This should: - Include theoretical/ literature-based support for your argument - Clearly identify whether you agree/ disagree (wholly or partially) with the provocation - Establish your position over the question of whether critical education should be considered an alternative education – or the central one.

Agree that critical pedagogy should have a greater presence within Education. The teacher should not only be the bringer of knowledge but also a receiver of knowledge from their students. Hierarchical structures should be flatter than they currently are in certain educational settings, for example college level and above. On the other hand, I feel that primary and secondary students need that person of power' (the teacher) as it allows them to build a concrete basis of knowledge before going onto further study where they will be more likely to par-take in independent and group study.
There are also aspects of the 'provocation' that in principle I agree with however I feel that the society we live in and the way that our education system is set up does not allow for many of the 'wishy washy' ideas put forth.
We are a society built on capitalism and I feel that that will never really change and people will always strive for more and for better and our education system is formed in such a way to enhance this society norm.
I think the idea of 'meaningful education' is a hugely subjectively concept and I believe everyone would have a different definition of this . The cynic in me says that meaningful education to me is the passing of exams and gaining of qualifications to allow young adults in the workplace and consequently to allow them to partake in society and gain material needs and wants to possibly allow them to climb up the social ladder through social mobility.

Under capitalism, education, like food, computers, and medicine, is taken on as a private profit-making enterprise, not because education is unimportant, but because education is too important to be controlled by the state .
