Mr.Eric similar to Mr.Zinn you both claim that slavery wasn't started because of the hate of one race, but racism was the consequence of it. I have to disagree with this claim and would like for you to further explain why you think this is true despite the known behavior of the Europeans? Before slavery, the Europeans brutally mistreated anyone who didn't look like them or live the way they lived. If roles were reversed would you still believe this statement was true?

From my understanding of this, it means that whites and understanding servants were no longer finding the need to come over to the colonies, my question for you is what caused the numbers of arriving whites and indentured slaves to go down, or was it just that the plantations were growing to fast for them to keep up?

3- Mr.Williams you stated that ¨Slavery was not born of racism: rather, racism was the consequence of slavery.¨ Many can argue that you are wrong. The definition of racism is ¨prejudice, discrimination or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group¨ and the African slaves were treated differently because of their particular racial or ethnic group so wouldn't Slavery come from racism?

So Mr Williams you're saying that racism is rooted in slavery, not the other way around?

Mr.Shawki, I understand the by the end of the 1700s white indentured servants were higher than African slaves however, how would you compare factors between the two types of workers that might influence one's decision on who to choose to take in?

Some factors to consider between the two types of workers are that African slaves are cheaper, larger in population, and are used to the work conditions. White indentured servants were more expensive, smaller in population and some weren't used to the work conditions and dying from diseases that weren't really affecting the African slaves.

Mr.Zinn, I acknowledge that other than hatred, Slavery and the plantation system grew because the number of whites that came to the new world was not enough to meet the requirements of a plantation, nevertheless, how would you change the population at the time to be more whites just as there were blacks or minority?
I would change the population to have more whites just as there were blacks or minorities by either not taking as many blacks from Africa or by asking more Europeans to come work for labor.

Mr. Williams, I recognize that instead of what most people think the reason slavery was brought up, it was the opposite, racism was the result of slavery. However, how would this information be useful if you were trying to incorporate it in a debate against a large number of people who think the opposite of you?
This information would be useful in a debate against the people opposing me because the reason they took slaves from Africa was that they had a better fit in the conditions of working so it made sense on the Europeans side, the only reason it was bad and turned into a bad thing was because Africans were forced against their own will to work for Europeans or Whites and because they were forced, people that were growing up seeing this happened thought of Blacks and Minorities of someone less than and carried that on through history which leads to racism.

Mr.Willams, I understand that you said slavery was not born of racism, rather, racism was the consequence of slavery. If racism was not the consequence of slavery then what do you believe caused racism to begin in the first place?

Answer: Racism had to do with the color of other people's skin. They felt as if African Americans were not white, so therefore they were forced into slavery. Their opinion on skin preference is what lead to African Americans being slaves and how racism came and evolved.

Mr.Zinn, I understand you stated that slavery grew as the plantation system grew. Do you believe that slavery grew for other reasons rather than just for work on the plantation or was there other factors that may contribute to the growth of slavery?

Answer: No, because slaves were mainly for labor. Slaves were kidnapped to work on plantations to grow crops such as tobacco and were no other factors that had a huge impact on the growth of slavery.

Mr. Shawki, I understand that you said ¨17th century, the price of white indentured servants outstripped the price of African slaves.¨ What was the cause of the outstripped price between the white indentured during this time period?

Answer: White indentured became harder to obtain, also they did not want to work on plantation-based on how the African Americans were being treated. African American slaves were not as hard to obtain since they would be kidnapped and forced to work on plantations. They were also cheaper as well.

There wasn't any need for indentured servants because planters didn't have to pay back slaves. Even Before full-scale slavery, Indentured servants believed that slaves were being treated better than them.

Mr.Zinn, I understand that you have said that even though many white Europeans came to the new world, Indentured servants could not meet the needs of the plantation.

Mr. Ahmed, I recognize that you said that by the end of the 1600s, African slaves became greater in number than indentured servants. However, what motive is there behind why colonies had a higher demand for African slaves in their economies than indentured servants?

African slaves were more desirable than indentured servants in a colony's economy because they came to the New World with no freedoms and also had no working contracts, meaning that they could be enslaved indefinitely.

Mr. Zinn, I understand that you believe that slavery grew as the effect of the plantation system, not because of racial hatred. Nevertheless, what ideas justify why inflicting brutality was embraced by slave owners if slaves were only brought in great numbers to labor on plantations?

During the use of the plantation system, racial hatred was present and caused severe mistreatment of slaves. Most slaveowners inflicted harm to slaves as a way to reinforce dominance or for punishment, and it also discouraged revolts against them.

Mr. Williams, I acknowledge that you understand racism to not be the cause of slavery, but the product of it. Yet, what can you infer about the colonists' existing perceptions of Africans based on how they implemented them into the New World's society?

I can infer colonists likely already had a racial bias against Africans which caused them to be used in the New World as slaves and not servants. Colonists religiously asserted themselves to be superior to Africans based on their physical appearance alone and therefore used it as a way to justify their enslavement.

1. Mr.Shawki, I understand that by the end of the 17th-century European indentured servants became more expensive which caused the uprising of African slavery. However, what can you infer as the reason why European indentured servants discontinued working in plantations?

2. Mr. Zinn, I understand that you stated "Slavery grew as the plantation system grew. The reason is easily traceable to something other than natural racial repugnance [hatred]: the number of arriving whites, whether free or indentured servants (under four to seven years contract), was not enough to meet the need of the plantations." However, what would result if the majority of white indentured servants didn't leave the plantation system?

3. Mr. Willam you claimed, “Slavery was not born of racism: rather, racism was the consequence of slavery.” However, what examples can you find to support the claim that racism was a consequence of slavery?

Mr.Shawki, I understand that by the 1700s close to the 1800s white indentured servants cost more than African slaves, but why do you think planters didn't deem it worthy to keep buying slaves and switched to white indentured servants? Do you think planters didn't want to deal with the responsibility of a slave, or is it more about the price?

Answer: I think that planters did not want to deal with the higher prices of buying a slave. As I said before, it cost planters more to buy African slaves, rather than receiving white indentured servants. The price of white indentured servants outstripped the price of slaves.

Mr. Zinn, I understand that you said slavery grew as the plantation systems grew. Do you think that if slavery started and ended quickly, either because people realized it was unethical, or didn't work out economically, do you think slavery and racism would have as much as an impact it had on America? Do you think we would still be experiencing discrimination until this day?

Answer: I think that if the plantation systems failed, then slavery would not have been as relevant in history as it is today. But I also wonder how it would have affected America's uprising. I think that if slavery was not as big of a deal, America and many other countries would not be dealing with a big race war.

Mr. Williams, I understand you stated that slavery wasn't born out of racism but that racism is the consequence of slavery, based on what you said do you think that race, racism, and caste all derived from slavery and the act of enslaving a certain group of people? Do you think that the superior caste (being white people) feels the effects and consequences of slavery?

Answer: To answer your question, I would say no, I don't think that white people or people who were not affected by the generational trauma of slavery and racism would feel the effects of slavery. They may see and recognize it but they could not feel the pain of enslavement. Also, I would like to say that I back up my statement of racism being the consequence of slavery rather than slavery being the consequence of racism. Without slavery, I don't think there would be a big race problem. But if racism was the origin, slavery would not be the only thing to branch out of racism.
