2) Students will reflect upon MLK I Have A Dream Speech and write their own using a template. Students will share these and then they will be displayed.

3) Students will further research different events from the Civil Rights Movement using approved internet sites or classroom books. They then will create a newspaper article in which they will write about their chosen event. Students articles will be hung around the room and they will go on a gallery walk to learn more about different turning points in the movement. The teacher will bind the articles together to create newspaper from the 1960s!

2)  After reading The Watsons Go To Birmingham, students will complete a bingo board activity with a variety of ways to respond to the text. The example is shown above.

3) Lastly, I will ask students to recollect a time when they were excluded from something on an unfair basis. I will have students write letters to the people who excluded them, or poems expressing what it felt like to be treated unjustly. Students will be able to experience a glimpse into how African American individuals felt during this era. Students may read Martin Luther King Jr famous letter from Birmingham Jail to see the type of emotion he felt and the words he used to convey his feelings.

2) Students will than take an oath to always try to stand up to injustice and make a difference, no matter how small. They will fill out a graphic organizer on different ways they can make a difference. They then will transfer the information from the organizer onto with my own two hands writing template. Student work will be hung up and be part of a bulletin board for the hallway. The display inspiration is shown below.

3) Lastly, students will make a video in which they talk about the issue they are passionate about and why it's important to care. Students will have creative freedom in how they record this. We will then have a viewing party in which students will watch each other videos and have the opportunity to ask questions.
