It was built in 1348 
for the king Charles IV (Karel IV.). Later the Bohemian crown jewels were moved there. Karlštejn should protect the crownjewels, because it is walled. The castle has got one main rectangular tower. Nowadays it is one of the most famous castles in the CR.

 a church dedicated to the saint James. Gothic Church of St. James has got 86 m tall tower. It is the oldest church in town. Its construction began in 1330 and ended in 1420.For the unusual height of its tower, the church was also referred to as the Tall or High Church until the 17th century. The interior combines Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque artifacts.The church is famous, because it is written on the list ofthe „World Heritage UNESCO“.

It has got one squar shaped tower. There is also a short bridge in the middle.
