         <description><![CDATA[<div>Starting in the 13th century, the Mongols entered Kieven lands and started destroying and pillaging villages. The Mongols retreated for 13 years, only to return and demand submission. After submission was refused, the Mongols started to burn down cities, including the capitol city. The Mongols even murdered to reigning royal family. Mongol rule was known to be harsh, especially toward criminals.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Peter the Great made some of the greatest and most impactful reforms in Russian history. Peter created a navy, reformed the army, and made new territorial and administrative divisions within Russia. He also enforced control over the Orthodox Church, modernized the Russian alphabet, established Russia's first newspaper, and introduced the Julian Calendar. Despite his reforms, he was known to be a tyrannical and cruel ruler.</div>]]></description>

Shortly after they entered the war, the Russians were lured into several battles, loosing hundreds of thousands of men- both to imprisonment and death. In December of 1917, Russia came under new leadership and they choose to sign an armistice with Germany; the armistice successfully ended the war.</div>]]></description>
