The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the last battles fought between the Japanese and the Americans in the Pacific. It was also one of the bloodiest battles for both sides. The reason for this is due to the island's close proximity to the Japanese home islands, and the fact that the Japanese considered it to be part of their nation. The horrific casualties experienced by the Americans helped reinforced the sense of how terrible and costly an invasion of the actual Japanese islands would be.

Manchuria was invaded on September 18, 1931 and was the first area to be invaded by the Japanese during the Japanese invasion of China. This caused the U.S to restrict the amount for trade going to China and gave the Japanese two options. To stop their invasion and restore trode or continue and be cut off completely.

On December 13, 1937 The rape of Nanking was a showing of how awful the Japanese were twardes non-Japanese. The Japanese army proceeded to slaughter and rape the people of Nanking because they surrendered instead of fighting with their lives.

On November 20, 1943 the Tarawa island was attacked and captured on the 23rd. This was one of many islands attacked during the Pacific campaign.

Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands

On August 7, 1942 the first ground invasion by the U.S was performed. The U.S decided on Guadalcanal as they had an airfield that could be used for air attacks. It also served as a starting point to push through the island chain.

On June 4, 1942 the Japanese attempted to launch a surprise attack on the U.S navy to eliminate the rest of their aircraft carriers. Unfortunately for the Japanese the U.S had information the Japanese didn't know about with allowed us to win and push the Japanese back after being severely crippled.

On December 7, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack on our naval base at pearl harbor. They caused massive damage and sank multiple of our battleships. This marked out entrance into the war.
