His death date is a fact, but when he was born is more controversial. 1525 is supposedly the year he was born, but is it guessed that he was truly born anywhere between 1520-1530. Bruegel is known as the greatest flemish painter of the 16th century. Flemish painting is the creation of art from artists that were from Flanders(now Belgium).

What we do know is, when he was a "young artist" he mainly worked as a creator of prints for Hieronymus Coecke in Antwerp a publisher and engraver. Corcke's wife, Mayken Verhulst was a very talented miniture artist, and she "imparted" her skills onto Bruegel.

Now people take photos of lower class people, but back then it was very rare, so seeing people suffer showed people how awful it really was.
