The US sought to fight and contain the spread of Communism in Asia and the campaign against Ho Chi Minh supported this fight for democracy. Also, the "domino theory" highlighted the threat of communism spreading to all of Asia. The picture shown is a truck with pro-Vietnam War propaganda being driven through a street in NYC. I would like to learn more about how people viewed Communism in the US and whether they thought it was worth going to war over or if the two ideologies shoudl co-exist. Communist Threat. They went into a country that wasn't their own and started a war for personal interests so that Vietnam would be a democracy and not communist. I would like to go into more depth and learn more about how the American soldiers and Vietnamese villagers interacted directly with each other.

these attacks killed thousands of the north Vietnamese and Viet cong. General William Westmoreland's goal was to eliminate the viet cong. His attempts included Bombing, as well as search and destroy missions. Some of these missions involved civilian casualties, which turned the support from mainland america agent the war. American Bomber planes targeted the north Vietnamese's oil and gasoline supply tankers as well as military supply roads and military bases.

Diem tried to help working classes with the National Liberation Front. Also many pioneer settlers in Vietnam had to relocate.
I would like to know more specific accounts of these families who suffered. I want to research more about the conditions they went through.

In South Vietnam people found themselves in the middle of the fighting and many were forced to fight for the Viet Cong.

Also the mention of US aid during the war is commonly mentioned. After reading this article I would like to learn more about the lives of soldiers and how being in the war effected not only their lives but the lives of other back on the home front.

The Americans and Diem’s South Vietnamese were not only fighting the North Vietnamese but they were also fighting the viet cong. The Viet cong wanted North and South Vietnam to unite under communist rule. The Viet Cong utilized guerilla tactics using small groups of fighters launching surprise attacks which were unlike anything the U.S. military had ever confronted. The US forces struggled to stop the Viet Cong because they were being supported on their home turf so they could go into villages and hide among the citizens.
