Who she is to others: Miss Maudie is a widow who has lived in Maycomb for a while. Foot washing Baptists find her different and unusual because she never fully submits to religion.
Empathizing Miss Maudie: Since she is a Baptist she must find it hard to have a fun and outdoor lifestyle. It must be harder for her since she is a widowed woman to live alone, so she looks to the outdoors for fun. Lastly since she has lived in Maycomb for a long time she probably knows how to empathize and understand people in the neighbor hood. (EX: Boo Radley)
