When analyzing the moral spheres chart, I do agree that the structure within itself of how we percieve ethical considerations to others from ourselves is presented in a way that ranks how we respond to others in our biosphere. However, I do not agree with the notion of the different colored sections being separated into white and dark groups. I feels as though separating family from everything else is not characteristic to how relationships are in real life. I feel like these groups cannot be classified in a direct order and changes from person to person. However, I do feel that this level of categorization is representative of how contemporary moral spheres are, showing how we as people can be interested to the environment that surrounds us.

If I had the power to switch the trolley to either hit one person instead of five, I think I would make that choice if four other lives could be saved at the expense of one. It is a difficult matter to determine, especially if I had the option to control the lives that are at stake, but if both groups were at a potential to get hit, the option that logically has fewer consequences feels like the better option. However, if the situation was adjusted so that there was a person to be pushed off the bridge instead, I would not change the lever. Having an innocent bystander who was not ever a potential victim seems wrong to forcibly place them through that fate. Even unknowingly, the five people on the track do have their lives at risk just based by chance, and it wouldn't be fair to take someone who wasn't in this position in the first place and have their life at risk. However, if the one person I sacrificed was someone that I knew, I think that I would switch the track to the five people instead. I think this idea relates directly to moral spheres and the idea of how I prioritize my peers.

In my personal matrix, I was more willing to save more lives for the purpose of saving more lives and those who have upheld the law than those who haven't. These decisions were extremely difficult to make, especially because I did not want others to suffer at all. This idea refers back to how my own moral sphere is made up and how I would respond to certain situations.

It is to the extent to clearly state what is being made's purpose is for, and to outline the distress of what it is not. Scientists and Engineers have a certain role in showing the public their values, and to not misuse the technology's that they create. It is under the morals of those in the future to decide whether or not it is to go against the creator's wishes with the technology that they create.

The documents that have been presented in writing did not adequetely stress the risks of not changing the rocket to be more resistent to temperature. Because the report was in writing, the tone felt more of a small inconvience rather than one that would stress that the rocket would explode at any moment. "Several long term solutions look good; but, several years are required to incorporate some of them. The simple short term measures should be taken to reduce flight risks." This quote demonstrates the need to simply fix a few of the errors with the flight, not taking into account the severity if this issue becomes a larger problem.

Science and technology is new way that can greatly improve daily life. The drive for discovery is important, as it helps move society into a more modernized world that can greatly benefit others. However, it is of an individual's choice whether or not if it is worth taking the risks of their actions. If their actions can greatly improve society, but might harm them as well, I believe that it is of their own choice and how much they feel obliged to take these risks. In the example of astronauts, it is of their own personal decision to decide whether or not to explore worlds unknown, however, they are aware of the risks and the potential consequences if conditions do not turn out to be exactly as planned.

Although design is very important, it is difficult to predict what could happen exactly, and allowing room for these mistakes may make a better product.

2. Reflect: What happened in regard to political polarization between the years 1994 and 2017? Do you think this trend has continued?

With each increasing year, I believe that the parties have became more and more distant from one another. I believe that this trend has continued to worseneas people are no longer willing to listen to each other's sides productively anymore. .

3. Reflect: How can one understand why people have the views that they do and can knowing this aid us in having a skillset to use when navigating how to communicate with people on complex issues such as climate science?

It is important to have a foundation of mutual respect for one another in order to speak of our differences. We need to stop seeing others as less than each other and begin to see each other as equals to each other. Both sides need to have an open mindset to be able to listen to what is important to say about complex issues. Both perspectives are valuable and judging each other for their values can only be described as destructive.

Reflect: In the above scenario, was anything done that was immoral? You should be able to behave morally for yourself and the situation is not that eating the dog was immoral. It was immoral to not inform the family of their actions, they could provide the closure of the confusion and grief that the family is facing, and keeping that away is not ethically moral. This obligation would not only include humans, but the future for other living organisms as well.

3.Reflect: What are the best means of ensuring environmental justice for all human communities?

The best means to ensure that there is environmental justice for all human communities is to distribute the environmental problem among the people and make it a personal responsibility. The amount of waste that we produce is on a level that cannot be sustainable and it ultimately effects those in the lower-income bracket of society. It is a system that favors those who have the means to afford the luxury of not seeing where their waste goods. Spreading this responsibility out would help ensure the environmental justice of all humans.

Did the first person perspective surprise you (or not), and why? Did you know that treating rivers like people under the law is a legal strategy being used around the world to protect rivers? What are some of the ethical implications of ascribing “personhood” to rivers?

I think that personifying the river was done in order for the viewer to sympathize for what it was going through. By giving human traits to inanimate objects allows us to understand what is going through the Colorado River. The first person intially suprised me, but after gaining insight behind the purpose of the intentional decision, I understood the purpose. I didn't know that treating rivers like people under the law was a legal strategy to protect rivers, but I completely understand the intention. The ethical implications of ascribing a "personhood" to rivers is a valid way to ensure that people understand the extent of the dangers of such a response.

Going further, do you know where your drinking water comes from? If you do know where your water comes from, how did you learn this information? If you don’t know where your water comes from, why don’t you? And would you call that an engineering success, an engineering failure, or something else entirely? What are some of the ramifications of not knowing where your drinking water comes from?

I believe that one of the everyday natural landscape item that I take for granted are trees. Because they are so commonly found and often times are used for improve the aesthetics of an environment, I think it is easy to overlook the aspects that make it so important for the environment. I think that humans do take advantage of them by cutting them down or not using them to their full potential. By doing so, I cannot say that I completely understand where my drinking water comes from. I am very priviledged to be able to have it there and easily accessible, but I would call it an engineering failure that I don't know the process of sanitation and distribution of ensuring one of the most important qualities of life. The ramifications of not knowing where our drinking water is coming from can involve a bit of ignorance in expecting that this resource will always be there. Because we rely on the convienence of it, the future protection of our freshwater resources may not be taken as seriously.

Reflect: Imagine a geographic scenario where the Colorado River ended in Southern California rather than across the United States border in entirely different country (Mexico). If the community of San Luis Rio Colorado were instead Los Angeles or San Diego, would the condition of the river’s delta be different? Why or why not? Work the concept of “environmental justice” into your answer.

By physically changing the location of the river, the conditions of the river's delta would alter significantly. For one, the river would no longer be spanning two different countries and would only account for one. These differences would make it much easier to come to an agreement among how to go about protecting and preserving the river. Because the delta is in a populated area, more people would feel a greater responsibility to treat the water better for their own wellbeing in being more environmentally conscious.

One was caused by accidental means and the other intentional. How has it impacted environmental justice issues?

Redlining is the grouping of people that have certain similarities to each other in cities and town. It disproportionately places people in different income brackets into communities that are less favorable and was popularized by bankers and insurance firms in the 1900s. This has subsequently impacted environmental justice issues by forcing people living in these areas to live with more extreme climates compared to those wealthier.

By being able to have such a knowledge, the decisions made must be made with others in consideration.
