Answer: I would use the casual speech style whenever the teacher is up for a quick chat outside the classroom or whenever the teacher cracks jokes during free time. On the other hand, I would use the formal speech style on situations where I have to message that teacher formally by starting my message off with a formal greeting. Another example is whenever I encounter the teacher in school and he/she is in a professional mode, so I drop the casualty and greet the teacher formally

I would use the casual speech style when the teacher is on their day-off or when we're not inside the school. Meanwhile inside the school, ithe students are required to use formal speech style to show professional and respect because they're not just my "friend" but also my teacher. Although teachers are not really required to be formal to their students so there will be a times nside the school that we communicate using casual speech style. But even though it's casual, it is also considered as formal because we talked appropriately. For example, if my teacher ask me a "casual" question in English then I would also answer them using the English language.

This happens quite a lot to me since my auntie/best friend is also a MAPEH teacher and a sports coordinator. At first, I find it very weird to speak with her in a formal way since in her house we are always funny fighting over k-dramas, eating samgyupsal because she has this samgyupsal thingy that she bought, and we are also hanging out. In grade 10, she's one of our subject teachers, and I have the exact scenarios that are being asked in this activity. She's our 3rd subject teacher, and I was tasked with asking her about the flow of our intramurals 2023-2024 from our adviser. So I asked her the moment she sat down in the seat. I said, "Goodmorning, Ma'am Pamela. I would like to ask about the flow of the intramurals since Ma'am Cadano asked me to write it down. Thank you." She giggled a bit. I think she knows that I find it weird, and she just said, "Meet me later at my office table," and I said, "Okay, Maam. Thank you." After school, the first thing I did was go to her office table and ask her about the flow. And something hit us and we just laughed it off. It was just the two of us, and we were laughing so loud, but luckily no one was there. "Wow, getting much better at speaking formal, huh?" she said. I replied, "Stop it." And we laugh again. That was funny, actually. To be able to speak with her, it may be formal or casual. I would say I nailed both.

I am Yesha Reign Marquez from Grade 11-STEM. I would like to inform you that i will be absent on October 25, 2024. The reason for my absence is that i have a medical check up about my ulcer scheduled on that day. Thank you and God Bless!"

Casual speech style

I would use casual speech style whenever the teacher wants to talk comfortably or chika something about personal or non school related matters.

Example: Ranting about other teachers and how they act differently around the students and the teachers another example is complaining about issues "Ms. Katung student from gr 10 ms. Ba kay nangasaba og pamaayo bisag wala mi ge buhat"

But mostly i would use formal speech style even though I'm friends with that teacher as a sign of respect since she/he is my teacher it depends on the scenario if the teacher wants to talk comfortably and casually or wants to talk seriously and professionally.

In casual speech style a specific scenario of my teacher friend and I talk privately outside the classroom or outside the school having lunch and share about some background check and concerns.

A specific scenario is my former teacher when I was grade 5, We still get in touch as of now and we love to share some chikas about the current situation. I always talk to her casually even tho she is no longer my teacher and stand as like my Mother but that doesnt change the fact that she is still a teacher, even tho we shared each others word like a friend but I still talk to her in casual and formal appropriately.

As for formal speech style is when reporting and greet formally the teacher to show some respect and be polite. Additionally, is when making a letter its better to address the letter first in greetings before the concern.

The specific scenario is my other former teacher, she formally ask me to be part of their christmas party to be the one to entertain some students. As a student of her before, I politely accept the request and we both started a plan for the flow and set up of the party.

If I were to have a friend who's a teacher, I must've know where to use the CASUAL and FORMAL speech style. Initially, I would use the Casual speech style when we're outside of the school and when the topic does not necessarily involves in educational matter. On the other hand, for the Formal speech style— I would use it, particularly when it comes to talking/messaging that teacher regarding with the activities, school purposes, concerns, etc. or basically when it is in a serious matter conversation. It is better to analyze when or where to use the Casual and Formal speech style to avoid from confusion to the delivered message—especially when we are talking to professional persons' , and for them to not get disrespected because still human decency is essential wherever we go.

I apply the formal speech style when I have some important matter to talk about, one example of that is the reason for my absence on that specific date and to talk about what happened, or when the teacher starts the discussion. Also, one example is when Ms. Balbuena asked us a question during her session in Oral Com which is, “What time would you want to visit in your grandparents' time” I comfortably said that, on how my grandparents took care of their children. Ms. Balbuena replied, and why is that so? She interestingly said it. I said since I was amazed by my father's love for my mother and us as well. Lastly, during homeroom time when Ms. Balbuena asked us to be quiet and reflect on ourselves. I started crying because I was so full. I was overwhelmed with SHS since it was a new beginning for me. After the session, I said to Ms. “Thank you, Ms.” And smiled. because I was relieved despite the obstacles that I faced, she helped me.

Meanwhile, I use the casual speech style before homeroom class or I can say that the teacher is in the mood. For example, way back in grade 10. Ms. Olasiman came to the room with a ponytail hair. We said “ Gwapaha nimo Ms uy, angayan ka ug ponytail” Ms. Olasiman smiled at us and she started talking with us in Bisaya with English. Aside from that, when we are teasing Sir Armamento, and he uses the hand sign “W” which stands for whatever and then he rolls his eyes and we also say it to him and laugh.

Answer:

Formal Speech Style

Using this style will depend on the setting, mood and the context. If I were to use this with my teacher "friend", it would be when there is a particular event in school that requires the students to be on their best behavior or when I am to request something from her inside the campus, specifically in the faculty, it could also be in matters of papers/paper works like absent letters, excuse letters, and clarification messages. There are other situations for this to be applied, I may be not able to enumerate some of them, but the most important things to remember when to be formal are the aura of the teacher, the environment, the number of respectable teachers that are with her, reading the room and this phrase that I've learned earlier...

"Being appropriate does not being polite sometimes".

Casual Speech Style

The best time to use this speech style is when a teacher invites it, like in a diad communication or perhaps when we are having a small group talk. However, it is important to keep in mind my choice of words, because at the end of the day, they are my teachers and they deserve to be respected, but, humour is always fun and is known to be the best reliever of stress in hard times, so why not embrace and share a laugh? Although, it is important to remember that when a teacher in class is using his/her usual formal tone, it is best to leave it at that.

I would use the casual speech because, even in a casual setting, it's important to strike a balance between friendship and respect. Using a casual speech can help maintain a positive and productive relationship with my teacher, while it's okay to be casual with my teacher friend, it's still important to maintain respect and professionalism. When i encounter my teacher “friend” is i will speak formally with my teacher, it's important to maintain a respectful and professional tone.

Answer:

In a scenario where a teacher is discussing in class or when the teacher-friend is communicating with me in regard to academic stuff, I would use the Formal speech style. This often happens inside the campus. Formal mode is the best way a student could act, especially when talking to a teacher. Scenarios where formal speech is required include when I'm asking my teacher questions in class, like for clarification on a difficult topic. It’s also important in emails about assignments, excuse and absence letters, or during presentations. Basically, any time I'm discussing academic stuff or showing respect in a more official setting, I’d stick to formal speech.

Conversely, when my teacher-friend is initiating communication in a relaxed setting, like talking about interests or recent events, I would use a Casual speech style to make the conversation entertaining. For example, having conversations like discussing a favorite movie, sharing funny stories about school, or chatting about upcoming weekend plans. But I would still keep in mind the words that I should be using because, at the end of the day, I am still talking to a teacher.

I use the formal speech style when talking to a teacher in terms of discussing topics that are seriously related to our teacher-student relationship. It may be about the concerns I or the teacher have. I make sure that professionalism is still taking place. I mostly use formal speech style when talking to the principal or other teachers that must be talked politely always; this mainly happens at every meeting of the SC officers, including me, together with Miss Gonzaga.

Even if I consider some of my teachers as someone whom I'm close with, I also have formal conversations with them. An instance is whenever I have to go to the faculty to speak to a teacher, for I have some business to share with him/her. I usually use formal words and call them by honorifics along with their surname. "Good day, teachers! May I speak with Miss Balbuena?". This mostly applies to Miss Balbuena and Miss Olasiman since they are the ones with whom I always have concern and am not afraid to approach.

On the other hand, I use a causal speech style in situations where the teachers are in the mood of doing casual things with me or with their students. A specific scenario was when I talked personal information about myself to a teacher, and handed me a lot of positivity. We were very casual to each other to think that it does not usually occur to a teacher and a student. Also the messages I sent to our GC with Miss Edelyn, wherein I use casual speech style like "I'm homeeee, miss!" and using emojis that clearly express my emotions. I am also very close with Miss Recka and quite with Sir Borja since I have already shared conversations with them where I used casual speech style. Another situation was when Miss Recka asked the whole class if we know Lance from IBED, but even though she asked the entire class, she looked at me as if that question were supposed to be for me. Then I answered her, "Ngano ni tan aw man ka nako, miss? HAHAHAHA." Then after that, she mentioned me in our GC with a screenshot of Lance sending a friend request to her, and I replied to her message sarcastically, "Ayaw na i-confirm miss oy, unsa may tuyo ana niya.".

CASUAL SPEECH STYLE

Applying the casual speech style will depend on the context and the mood. Using this type of speech style must not apply in any kind of situation that is not suitable, there should be a suitable scene where we can use the casual speech style. And if one of my teachers is my "friend" I would apply the casual speech style in a scene where me and that teacher are having friendly talks or talks that involve personal talk/ heart-to-heart talks .

EXAMPLE

SCENE: CHATTING IN MESSENGER

I, my Classmates, and Miss Recka are having a chat in Messenger and the context is telling jokes and teasing each other, so in that case, I used the casual style, where I am having a comfortable conversation with Miss Recka by telling jokes and having fun through chat. We were like a friend or older sister of ours.

SCENE: IN PERSONAL

When the Grade 10 had a TedTalk in our classroom, Miss Recka and I did have a little talk. She asked me "Micha, ka strict na nimo oi hahah" and I smiled at her and said "di miss oi hahahaha"

Another face to face scenario:

I went to Miss Recka's room to give something and she said "Oi Micha! naa raba kay e hatag nako na gift. Asa man??" And I gave her the gift and said "araaa miss ooh" and she responded "ayiee naa kay 20 points nako"

Another face to face scenario with Miss Ed:

We were celebrating teacher's day and earlier after that, I asked her "miss na lipay raka, Miss?" And the reason why I asked her that question is because we surprised her in the celebration of her being our teacher. And I didn't understand of what she replied to my question but later on, she asked "Micha, na lipay raka?" and I said "yesss miss ahahha" Because we were able to surprise her with the love we have for her.

CASUAL is not always where you and that person are jokingly with each other and having great fun talks but also having sweet heartwarmingly friendly talks.

FORMAL SPEECH STYLE

Applying Formal speech style is a style where it often implies respect and proper speech. It can apply in every situation, However, it also depends on the context and the situation. I would apply the formal speech style on one of my teachers who is considered as my "friend" in school purposes, discussion, and asking for a clarifications through message, email, and in personal.

EXAMPLE:

SCENE: CHATTING THROUGH MESSENGER AND EMAIL

I messaged my teacher "Hello, Miss. Good Evening! I'm already home." whenever I arrived home after class.

And when I need some clarifications and questions I always start with "Hello, Miss [teacher's name]" and "Good Morning" or Good Evening" and then, next are the remaining questions or the clarifications.

SCENE: IN PERSONAL

When I go to the faculty room and the room is packed up of teachers so, I always say "Good day, Teachers! I am Lantayona from gr. 11 HUMSS, I am here to [the other message]" and as well as in excuse and absent letters.

Another scenario face to face with Miss Ed.

Miss Ed, Called Me and my classmate, she asked us to do a task, She said "Micha and Fairest, kanang sa table nako naay index adto sa P.E. e cut tu siya into two." And we responded with "Yes, Miss!"

CASUAL and FORMAL speech styles are both important for us to balance our conversation and our speeches towards everybody and it always depends on the context, situation, and mood. Both speech styles have limitations to control our behaviors and be always mindful of our words, as well.

I will use formal speech if I'm talking to teachers when we're inside the school or in class, especially when I'm addressing an academic concern or the project that has been given to me and having difficulties with the project.

For example, "Good afternoon, Miss Balbuena, and excuse me for a moment to discuss the project that you've given me. I'm having difficulties with this project. Can I please, but if it's okay with you to clarify the instructions for this project?"

I would like to use casual speech when he/she invites you to their office for a casual chat, and if we see each other in public places, especially casual speech should be used with friendly greetings.

For example, "Good afternoon, Ms. Balbuana. It's nice to see you here." And having a little chat and laugh.

Example Scenario: Out in the school premises.

If my teacher and I are friends and we go out to have coffee I will still use the formal speech style for a reason that she is still my teacher, she still has the authority and not me. It is also my way of showing respect towards her, maintaining the respect even though we are friends.
