         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1)</strong> Jefferson collected fossils and was obsessed with animals, especially the mammoth. He even had the bones of a <a href="https://www.monticello.org/site/research-and-collections/upper-jawbone-mastodon">mastodon</a> (now displayed in the Monticello Entrance Hall) sent to him during his residence in the President's House in Washington, DC.  (Read about <a href="https://www.monticello.org/site/research-and-collections/jeffersons-excavation-indian-burial-mound">Jefferson's excavation of an Indian burial mound near Monticello</a>.)<br><strong>2) </strong>"Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today". I believe this quote is meant to send the message of how you need to be determined with the things you do, even on a daily basis. You need to get your things done and you need to stop leaving it all for "later" or "tomorrow". <br><strong>3)</strong> <strong>Accomplishment #1:</strong> Jefferson stabilized the U.S. economy and defeated pirates from North Africa during the Barbary War. <strong>Accomplishment #2:</strong> He founded the University of Virginia. <strong>Accomplishment #3:</strong> He was responsible for doubling the size of the United States by successfully brokering the Louisiana Purchase. </div>]]></description>
