Knowledge is having the power to convey information in a clear and concise way. I would go so far as to say one who is knowledgeable is able to influence others. I suppose that influence ties in with knowing something because the individual is able to apply what they know in a meaningful and efficient way. After some of our readings this week, it is clear that the majority of the time it is those around us (teachers, parents, politicians, etc) who decide what counts as knowledge.

knowledge is a concept that describes how "intelligent" someone is. knowledge is expressed and obtained through problem-solving, asking critical questions (aka learning) and most importantly goes beyond memorization of facts. To know something means to have it stored in your brain's long term memory, and to understand when to use it.

Who decides what counts? Officially there is an IQ test that determines intelligence levels, but many studies show that this assessment has a history of being blatantly racist. In the classroom, students consider a peer "smart" when that peer does not need any help.

While one can argue nobody but you (or me) decide what counts, in practice it depends on the situation where you want to use the knowledge. There could be protocols or standards that sets the rule of the game - which themselves can evolve, but one has to go through them to make the knowledge count towards an outcome that system is striving for.
