I feel that individuals should be responsible for a more balanced diet. The reason is, is that if the government was responsible for that then certain people would still not follow it. If people don't choose to make a healthy lifestyle then that is on them. If people choose to eat good and stay active then I feel they generally with live a better life. They wouldn't have to worry about gaining excessive amounts of weight.

I believe that it should be individual adults' responsibilities to eat a balanced diet. I feel that it is their own choice to make, but perhaps the government could better highlight the risks and problems that may occur in overweight people. This could potentially scare people into eating healthier options without the government telling you what you are allowed to eat. On the other hand, I think that the government is responsible for giving children a balanced diet. Children are too young to make educated decisions about portion size and what they are consuming. This would be especially beneficial if the child's parents are not eating a balanced diet because otherwise, the child may follow in their path.

Individuals should be the ones responsible for having a balanced diet. There are already healthier options out there, people just do not take the initiative to eat those healthier foods. Over the years, the government has done enough education showing what a balanced diet looks like. Therefore, this shifts the responsibility on to everyone to hold themselves accountable and to have a nutritious and balanced diet. It is not the government's job to make sure you are eating healthy. Everyone must do it for their own benefit and health.

Individuals should be responsible for a more balanced diet. This is because forcing people to eat certain is not good for anyone. Most adults are completely capable of controlling their diet. However, if an adult is struggling with their diet there are some other ways to help. One such way is bypass surgery. Bypass surgery influences the person who got the surgery to not eat as much, which is a big factor in keeping aa balanced diet.

I feel that individuals should be responsible to trying to have a more balanced diet. It should be the person's choice on what they eat and how much of it. I do think that the government can put out helpful ways to stay healthy, with helpful tips for exercise and eating habits. They could also show the health problems that could occur, so people can see the risks of unhealthy eating. Although, it is the individual's choice if they follow them or not.

I think individuals should be responsible because not all people will do it the same way. Some people will just want to lose weight and keep it gone so they might change how they eat and exercise some more. Others will want to turn that fat into muscle so they eat the same amount of food but different types. If the government was responsible they might only help on of those different types of people. This could cause people to be angry at each other.

I believe that individuals should be responsible to eat a more balanced diet. I feel that it is an individual's decision what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat. If an individual wants to eat a more balanced diet, then it is in their power to do it, not the governments. I do believe that the government could be setting good examples of a balanced diet to influence younger children and lead them in the right direction towards a healthy diet. The government could educate the children in school of the health risks of an unhealthy diet and the rewards of a more balanced diet. This could lead the children off on the right foot and guide them to a healthier diet for the rest of their life.

I believe individual should be responsible for their own diet. Making the government do it wouldn't change anything, because if someone wants to break the rules of the government then they will do so. If an individual wants to have a more balanced diet or have a vegan diet it is completely up to them. The only thing the government really has the power to do in the topic of diet is make schools and other public places more diet friendly. By doing so students would be obtaining a well balanced diet for their school meal.

I believe that individuals should be responsible of the own diet and it is up to the government to support a more balanced diet. If the government doesn't support a more balanced diet individuals won't want to worry so much about their diets. The USA is one of the most overweight countries in the world, overweight individuals have a sense of mind knowing they are overweight and this causes some of them to get stressed and eat more. If individuals don't have a more balanced diet they will stay overweight and the government can't change that. What one person decides to do with their body is solely up to them, the government can support a more balanced diet but they can't force someone to have a more balanced diet.

I believe that individuals should be responsible for a more balanced diet. At the end of the day, only the individual can decide what they consume. The government can push you to eat a more balanced diet, but they can't force feed you or monitor everyone and what they are putting in their bodies. Every day each individual decides what they put in their body and how much of it which decides their weight. Everyone's weight and health is in their own hands, so the government should not be held responsible.

I think that the government should work to increase the information about healthy eating given to both adults and children. The use of health curriculums with a focus on balanced diets and PSAs demonstrating the science and statistics behind eating well would be great ways to improve peoples awareness of health. Though I do not think that the government is completely responsible for citizens health. Government regulated meals, such as public school food, should be as healthy and balanced as possible, but beyond that the government doesn't have much control. Even the FDA has no control over the health value of food products beyond them being safe for consumption. I do not believe that giving the government greater control over the healthiness of restaurants and food products is going to help anyone. We cannot change people by force, even under the assumption it is for their best interest, the only way to truly affect peoples outlook would be through the sharing of unbiased information.

I believe individuals should be responsible for a more balanced diet. If someone wants to be healthy or unhealthy, that is their choice. The government should inform individuals on the harms of not eating a balanced diet rather than be responsible for their choices. This way, individuals will at least be educated when it comes to their diet and hopefully lead them in the right direction. Also, even if the government tried to control people by forcing them a different diet, many people would still find a way to avoid it. For example, when Michelle Obama tried to incorporate a healthier diet in school systems, it seemed to do more harm than good. This shows that ultimately the government being responsible for a more balanced diet is not effective.

I do not believe the government is entirely responsible for a more balanced diet. Though I believe in fresh initiatives and a sharing of information about healthier living, I do not believe a tax is the right way to propose that idea. As stated in the article, it would disproportionately affect specific populations and be considered a failure. In my opinion, the root of this crisis is not simply people making poor food choices, but for certain American demographics, especially those more economically depressed, it is a matter of what is available. To solve the obesity epidemic, I believe it is important for the government to recognize this part of the issue and make strides to amend that as well. So though I agree the government should promote a balanced diet to its citizens and make the opportunity for that more accessible, ultimately, it is the individual's choice to better their health. No one should be forced into it.

I think that diets should be down to the individual instead of the government. Everyone should be responsible enough to know and understand what they need to eat for a balanced diet. Anyone who doesn't should be free to live their life how they want to. If we were to force diets through the government then not everyone would have their necessities. I believe that no one should be forced into a diet.

I personally believe that individuals are the ones responsible for maintaining a balanced diet rather than the government. In a larger perspective, the government could be deemed responsible in the sense that they provide the nutritious foods for individuals to consume. However, it is overall the individual's choice whether they choose to follow through with the diet. Even when presented with the opportunity of a better dietary lifestyle, it is up to the individual if they put in the effort to consume the healthier foods provided. Without the individual putting in the effort to make the diet successful, the diet cannot be in full effect. Therefore, individuals are responsible for maintaining a more balanced diet provided that they follow through with their dietary plan and make the effort for a change.

I feel as if, everyone individual is responsible for there appearance. I understand that sometimes it could be hard to find motivation on your own, but if you care enough you will find motivation. People sure enough, can make time to go to the gym, make time to still workout even if it is minimal the actions will add up. My brother lives in Virginia now as a welder on a ship yard, he works from 3-11 everyday, and in the morning he gets up and goes to the gym to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I feel like it should be a balance of both, personally. When the Government gets involved with things, it is that way for everyone, not just obese people. To police everyone's eating habits is not the best approach to ending obesity. Instead, healthy food should be priced cheaper to assist in the decreasing of obesity. Most healthy foods are more expensive than the "junk food" on the shelves, if this was different, most people would not have to choose the unhealthy alternative. However, at the end of the day it is truly up to the individual to make their eating choices.
