We talked about how it would be nice to be able to allow teachers at the elementary level to "specialize" or focus on one or two subject areas that they could teach with greater mastery and less stress with planning. For something we can work on fixing "right now" is sharing a lesson plan template or example across grade levels so people can learn ways to consolidate their plans so they stress less. A suggestion was made for grade levels to have time allotted for them to plan out units ahead so that writing lesson plans each week would be much easier and less stressful.

We talked about as a grade level team we are there for one another sharing ideas, plans, sending away for copies, and sometimes we simply just need to check in with one another for sanity. It’s so nice to hear how my teammates are teaching various skills because it stretches my thoughts on how to best teach my students new skills. One other thing we talked about is to not get caught in the comparison trap because we each have our unique style of teaching with strengths to best meet our students needs. We need to believe that we are equipped with exactly what we need to create growth in our students.

I try not to fit so much in a lesson. I typically never get to all of the activities with the kindergartners I plan so instead of planning more I plan more concise effective lessons. This takes me less time to write these lessons. It helps meeting as a team so that we are on the same page and can check in on where we are suppose to be in each unit.

It seems that finding the balance between work and school will always come down to accepting what is "enough" at school, because there is always more to do! Several of the people that we talked with were trying to leave schoolwork at school rather than bring it home each night. Often it doesn't get done at home and only creates a cloud over the evening.
