1. RTI is a method of instruction that breaks down instruction into tiers depending on student needs
2. Pros- differentiated and targeted instruction, meets the student where they're at (students can't learn 3rd grade material if they are still working towards mastering first grade material)
Cons- all gen ed teachers should be able to teach all students that come into their classrooms (gen ed teachers don't have the knowledge they need to teach all students)

Working with a student within the Waterloo schools who has tier 2 supports, when I asked what his next level of supports looked like to the general education teacher, he had no idea what that would be. The importance of not just having RTI supports within the school, be ensuring that all are educated on what each tier is and the purpose.

1. RTI is a method used by teachers to help students who are struggling academically, socially, or in any other part of their school day that breaks down different methods to try and aid the student in the classroom without having to remove them from the general education classroom right away (or at all).
2. Pros - General education teachers are better able to have a voice in a student's education, leading to more collaboration rather than giving all voice to the special education teacher.
Cons- general education teachers are not always given access or aware of in depth training to have an understanding of what RTI is and how it can be helpful within the classroom.
It also can box in students into labelling without in-depth training of RTI.
