More than 2,500 years ago, Buddhism was founded in India by Siddhartha Gautama. After the faith had spread throughout the region, the fall of the Han Dynasty in 220 CE allowed many religions to be introduced into China, including Buddhism. The gradual diffusion of this religion greatly affected the Chinese people and they were met with mixed results; there were those who accepted Buddhism and its principles, and those who perceived it as a foreign conception.

Context: Throughout the han dynasty, Confucianism was the dominant religion, and everybody assumed the way of life was right. However, as the Dynasty started declining, people were turned to new religions such as Buddhism. Buddhism was particularly appealing to the lower-class because of it's emphasis on love and equality.
