• It's important for me to prioritize my physical and mental health this semester, especially with the class load that I am taking on and since I'm now in PDPR

  • I find that I can get burnt out and it can be hard for me sometimes to get myself motivated to go to class everyday. Now that I am going to be busy with rehearsals, it's important to me to find ways to really feel excited and motivated, and to also make sure that my body is physically ready to dance every single day. 

    • go to sleep earlier and get on a more consistent sleep schedule 

    • Eating healthy and nourishing myself 

    • Finding time for myself everyday - college can be really overwhelming because it is so go go go all the time and you are constantly surrounded by people (first time living with roommates) - but alone time is really important to me and is crucial in order to maintain good mental health. I need it to recharge and just reset. 

• I really liked Angels movement style. It was exciting for me to be able to move around in that way because it is not similar to the styles I have done so far at UT but it is familiar to stuff I did at home and really enjoyed.

CHALLENGING

•  It was really hard for me to take the combo that we learned and entirely change it. I wasn't expecting to have to change the whole thing so I went into the audition with the intention of keeping the sequence of the movements in my body and then it was difficult for me to entirely undo that.

GROWTH 

• I think dismantling the movement allowed me to grow in finding comfort in uncomfortability. It also allowed me to fully explore my improvisation style and the movements that come naturally to me.

• It was fun getting to work with partners and collaborate in a way that wasn't so “dancy”. I like working with more pedestrian movement and creating pieces that have clear stories to audience members.

CHALLENGING

• It was difficult to do it one time in a pedestrian manner and the next time in a dancy manner. It was hard to switch from one form of movement to another so quickly.

GROWTH 

• I think I grew when it came to working in partnerships, because sometimes that can be difficult for me, especially when I don't know the person too well.

• I liked how we got to make up our own segments because it allowed me to really show my individuality in dance and allow myself to showcase my best work

CHALLENGING

• It was challenging to incorporate all of the prompts in such a short amount of time. I didn't know if I would remember them all or be able to incorporate them all in such a quick time period.

GROWTH 

• This exercise allowed me to think quickly and be on my toes when it comes to choreography.

• I thought that the combination was super cool and it was a style that I am really excited about. I like how she incorporated both technique and movement and allowed for us to showcase some partner work.

CHALLANGING

• She moved really quickly when it came to teaching us the choreography which was hard for me. I didn't have time to really process what was happening and was forced to just kind of figure it out.

GROWTH

• This experience taught me how to adapt quickly and showed me that if I really focus and put my mind to something I can do it.
