In Comuna 13 in Medellín, Colombia, this striking graffiti mural represents a powerful symbol of transformation. Painted on a large public wall, the artwork immediately captures the attention of every passerby. The mural portrays a young boy releasing a flock of colorful birds into the bright sky, symbolizing a new beginning for the community.

The background is filled with these intense oranges, those deep blues, and some radiant yellows that reflect the energy and history of the neighborhood. Each bird has a unique color, and every detail adds meaning to the scene. Many visitors stop to admire this emotional image and take photos of that inspiring moment.

For the local residents, this mural is not just a decoration; it is a reminder of their past and their resilience. Although some people still see graffiti as vandalism, most citizens recognize the cultural value of these urban artworks. In my opinion, both the authorities and the community should protect these artistic expressions because they preserve the identity of the neighborhood and promote a sense of unity.

Juan Pablo segura, Javier Pedroza

This graffiti reflects how Bogotá has turned its downtown especially Avenida Caracas and Carrera 10 into a vibrant open-air gallery. Massive murals, some reaching up to eight floors, transform ordinary walls into powerful works of art that capture everyday life, emotion, and identity.

With contributions from both international and local artists, these murals like “El Beso de Los Invisibles” bring color and meaning to the city, inviting people to see Bogotá not just as a place of movement, but as a space for creativity, connection, and cultural expression.

Most residents in the city recognize that street art can change the atmosphere of the whole neighborhood. In this mural, each detail from the punk hairstyle to the intense gaze tells a story, ensuring that no part of the message is ignored. Both the vibrant colors and the bold text remind every passerby that creativity is a constant force. While some people might view graffiti as vandalism, neither time nor neglect can erase the impact of such a powerful expression. Ultimately, all street art serves a purpose, and either you appreciate the style or the message, you cannot deny that art is not dead.

Diego Felipe Becerra marked a turning point in the history of graffiti in Bogotá. The 16-year-old was murdered by a police officer under circumstances that were later proven to be fabricated, as the officer attempted to justify the killing by claiming that Diego Felipe had participated in a robbery, an accusation that turned out to be false. This event highlighted the criminalization and stigmatization faced by graffiti artists in the city.

This murder became a symbol of the struggle for the recognition of graffiti as a legitimate form of artistic expression, and not as an act of vandalism. In response to public outrage, Decree 75 was enacted in 2013, seeking to regulate the practice of graffiti in Bogotá. This decree, which promotes the artistic and responsible practice of graffiti, was an attempt by the local government to find a balance between the need to protect public space and the right of urban artists to express themselves freely.

In our opinion is a meaningful grafiti that has a real meaning that is important in Bogotá

In this graffiti, the whole wall is covered with colorful street art that immediately attracts attention. Each detail of the mural shows creativity, and every line seems carefully designed. The young figure carrying fish on both sides represents effort and balance, and all the bright colors create a positive and energetic atmosphere. In some parts of the wall, we can see interesting textures that make the artwork even more authentic. Most people would agree that this type of art improves urban spaces, and either interpretation (cultural or personal) can be meaningful. Neither the simple background nor the everyday setting reduces its impact; instead, it proves that art can transform any place into something inspiring.

This graffiti shows two girls with long red hair hugging on the whole wall of an old, damaged building. Each girl looks realistic, and every detail of their faces shows emotion. One faces forward while the other turns away, but both hold each other tightly. Some cracks in the wall make the artwork even more powerful.

The impact is strong because every person who sees it can feel the love and support in the hug. Most people may see it as a symbol of friendship or comfort. There is no anger in the image, and neither girl looks afraid.

In our opinion, the whole artwork is meaningful. Each detail adds emotion, and I don’t think there is any negative message. Both the image and the old wall make it special and thoughtful.

This graffiti represents the historical politic Jorge Eliecer Gaitán, whose death lead to the violent "El bogotazo" where thousand of people lost their lives in Bogotá in 1948. The graffiti is located in Bogotá, on a low-middle class neighborhood, where Gaitán, is the resemblance of diferentities through social classes and politic violence over our history, so it´s impact is very social and tangible. Finally, I think that knowing our history is essential to be a better society.

For many viewers, the mural creates a feeling of happiness and warmth because the characters look relaxed and united.

This graffiti, painted on a plain gray wall in an urban setting, shows two young boys working together: one stands firmly on the ground while carrying the other on his shoulders so he can reach a sign that reads “Graffiti is a crime.” The boy at the top stretches his arm toward the sign, as if he is about to alter or challenge its message. The artwork is created in black and white, which contrasts with the official red and white colors of the sign, making the scene stand out even more. The use of children adds a powerful sense of innocence and creativity, highlighting the irony of the situation—while the sign condemns graffiti, the mural itself is a striking and meaningful piece of art. This piece can be interpreted as a reflection on freedom of expression and how street art questions authority and social rules, suggesting that creativity should not automatically be considered a crime.
