It is known by many other names such as Transit, Underground Railroad, or Metro. 
The main feature of the MRT system is its ability to efficiently transport large numbers of people  and form the backbone of the city's public transport system along with other rail modes such as the light rail transit system (LRT), monorails and commuter trains. 
Tracks are often placed in underground tunnels, especially when running through  city centers or on  viaducts above street level, especially in the  suburbs of cities. 
By 2020, travel demand  in the Klang Valley is expected to reach 18 million trips per day. If all these trips were made by private transport, the city would be paralyzed. While Japan's fastest Nozomi shinkansen bullet train service will start running as frequently as every five minutes between Tokyo and Osaka. More over, the speed for Shinkansen are 320 km/h.
