One story of how The Wendigo came to be was first a hunter who was out during a cold winter, on the verge of death. He had no food so he turned to cannibalism and ate another human’s flesh. This flesh had transformed the man into a beast who now searches for more people he can feast on.

Fact: Wendigo translates to "evil spirit/cannibal"

https://www.tbsnews.net/splash/legend-wendigo-44773

In the most recent depiction of Wendigo, directors Scott Cooper and Guillermo del Toro wanted to take the approach of a more “God-like” creature. The design had to seem unnatural and something that was out of the ordinary. One feature was the bones that “looked like coal...We have to see he looks ancient and powerful, and one with nature”.

https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/antlers-guillermo-del-toro-wants-the-wendigo-to-look-like-a-god/

Another version of Wendigo that is found in novels is from books written by famous author Stephen King. Wendigo appears in Pet Semetary and The Girl Who Liked Tom Gordon. King describes Wendigo a little bit differently than others where “ancient ghoulish demon is a grotesque, laughing god, a face with up-tilted, yellowish-gray, gleaming eyes, mouth drawn down in a rictus, lower lip turned out, blackish-brown, worn down teeth, ram's horns for ears, black pulsing veins in the lips”

https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Wendigo_(Stephen_King)
