The central conflict in the story was Jing-Mei's mother wants her child to be a prodigy one of the really great ones. But Jing-Mei doesn't want that all she wants is to is be a normal kid. She doesn't mean to disapoint her mom at least not at first. After awhile shes over her mothers antics and the pressure and goes off on her own. Especially when her mother forces her to take piano lessons. Jing-Mei purposely doesn't pay attention and plays badly and doesn't fix herself.

The title of the story is two kinds. I believe this has revelation to the story because Jing-Mei's mom believes there is only two types of children. There are children that are child prodigys and perfect. Then there are the others that don't care and aren't prodigys.
