The purpose of this activity is just to introduce the topic in a fun way and to activate students’ existing knowledge about food and food vocabulary.

Next, I ask students about what other food they know in English and write those words on the board.

Once I have a few examples on the board, I survey the whole class as to whether or not they like those foods.

Then, I ask students to show a thumbs up or thumbs down to indicate if they like or dislike the food.

In addition, I use food flashcards to practice the key words by showing the flashcards and asking students to repeat after me.

I ask students to try to say the words on their own.
Learning the letters The activity is suitable for third and fourth grade - for a class where you start teaching reading in English At the beginning of the lesson I teach a few words that start with the new letter.I hang the pictures on the board and ask the students to close their eyes, then I take one picture off the board and ask them to open their eyes, I ask them what is missing and that's how I repeat the new words with them.I ask the students what the opening sound of all these words is and from that we come together to the sound of the letter and the name of the letter.I teach them to write the letter correctly and accurately and then I ask them to write in their private board the new letter (each girl has an erasable board and an erasable marker). We create the letter in plasticine or flexible thread and only then move on to writing it in a notebook. At the end of the lesson I ask the students to paste or draw in the notebook pictures that start with the new letter.

Short Stories for Junior high

I would use topic related stories from this site (or from other resources) for a bi-weekly storytelling in class. It is very important to choose a story with just the right level for your class so that they could understand the storyline and get the gist of what you are reading without stopping to translate words. You could start with introducing five or six key words that will aid comprehension. then a few general qustions to lead them in to the story. I would use reading as way to sum up a topic being discussed in class. The pleasure of passively enjoying a good story should not be spoiled with too much technichal work, so I would only ask questions that generate thinking and analysing, such as questions about a specific character or what they would change in the plot if they were the author etc. A good story could imprint a student for life!

The song gets us into 4 sentences- structures.
I'd like to have these sentences clear and big-enough on the board, one at a time.
First, I recite sentence 1: "What can we see?", while using the appropriate gestures. Then have everyone sing along.
Second, I'd switch into the girls' names. For ex.: "What can Rina see?" etc.
Then, we move to sentence- structure 2: "We can see...". I'd pick up objects the students are familiar with, and replace them in the sentence, like: "We can see the teacher\ pictures..." and so on.
Sentence Structure 3: "How many... are there?" -Show the meaning of : "how many" by fingers and the gesture of question. Then I pick up some pencils, put them back and ask: "How many pencils are there?" and so on with additional objects.
The same principle applies to the fourth sentence.
I'll also make sure the Ss are familiar with the animals mentioned in the song.
The last stage is the song itself- while the Ss are already quite familiar with the tune.
