Hi, my name is Iain Greenwood, I am the deputy director and co-creator of the Clinical Pharmacology Degree. I am the ‘yang’ to Prof Baker’s ‘ying’. My title at St George’s, Professor of Vascular Pharmacology, reflects my research activity, which since my PhD in Manchester has been concerned with the regulation of smooth muscle function. I have published over 100 research papers and received funding from various agencies including the MRC, BBSRC and the British Heart Foundation. I came to St George’s in 1994 but I worked in Montreal for 4 months in 1998 and all of 2001 in Reno, Nevada USA. I have contributed to many of the St George’s degree courses and leapt at the chance to build a brand-new degree when offered the chance in 2017. I enjoy interacting with students and I believe learning should be fun. So, you’ll usually find me whistling, listening to music or trying to get snacks incorporated into anything. I love a pun too so prepare youself for anecdotes, analogies and awful word play.

I’m Jen and I am the module leader for Fundamentals of Science and you see me in your small group sessions, lab practicals and sometimes in Pharmacodynamic or Data and Stats too! I did a BSc in Physiology at Dundee University and a PhD at Queen’s University in Belfast and was a post-doctoral researcher at St George’s for 6 years before becoming a lecturer. I am a lab based researcher and work on finding out how blood vessels work and what happens when something wrong, for example when people develop high blood pressure. My research has taken me to work in labs in Israel, Canada and Australia but London is by far my favourite place to work and live. I look forward to meeting you all and I’ll see you soon and we can start putting the “Fun” into Fundamentals of Science!

I am a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology at St George's, and other half of my role is as an Acute Medicine Consultant. Although I have just started in this role in September 2020, I have been a student here too, so I know how you feel! In the past 3 years, I have been at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry with significant involvement in medical education. My PhD was related to molecular genetics in cardiovascular disease, and my research interests also span from as small as genetics and cell culture to as large as population-level studies, and more recently biomedical education. My spare (ha!) time is now spent with my amazing toddler and family. I am looking forwards to being part of your journey to being Clinical Pharmacologists and beyond.

Hello everyone. I am your course director and co-creator of the Clinical Pharmacology degree. According to Professor Greenwood (see his profile) I am the ‘ying’ to his ‘yang’, by which I think he means I am serious and he is funny! I trained as a doctor in Edinburgh, then did a PhD in Manchester, before completing my medical training with clinical pharmacology at St George’s. I celebrated my 25th anniversary of working here this August (2020). I love working at St George’s because it is friendly and allows me to work with great people like the course team and you students. My current role is as Professor of Clinical Pharmacology. My credentials for leading your course are 30 years of experience in research into areas relevant to the degree including disease mechanisms, drug actions and clinical trials. My favourite bit of research is analysing data and – as your module lead for Data and Statistics – I hope to get you excited about this too. I love teaching and developing courses, which I have done throughout my time at St George’s, and am a National Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education academy. As a doctor I work in St George’s Hospital next to the University, where my roles include direct patient care, management and policy, all aiming to make sure that patients get the best medicines. When I’m not juggling all that, you’ll find me painting, playing golf or spending time with my large family, including my 9 fabulous nieces and nephews.
