This book focuses on a young girl that earned a scholarship to attend a private school. The young girl struggles to fit due to a variety of reasons. Not only can children connect to the main character's inability to fit in, but they can learn from the girl's diverse background. This book is another example of how students can connect to various characters with different cultures and families.

My goal is to create a more inclusive classroom. I think this goal can be met through diverse read alouds. I aim to set aside time to read aloud to my students. I am finding that more openness, vivid classroom conversations, and connections tend to happen during this time. With this process occurring, I think read alouds could be used to strengthen classroom inclusion. Books that are diverse and have characters with rich backgrounds will better serve my students. I hope to see more inclusion and connections occurring in my class with the following books.

Allowing them to be exposed to various cultures and find ways to connect to it is something I am striving to do next year.

Students quotes often range in ideas and often lead to great classroom discussions. ELL students could share quotes in their native language and explain to the class why it is valuable to them.
