<title>Definition: The Commutative Property states that order does not matter. No matter what order you put the numbers you are adding the answer will be the same.

         <title>Directions:
Lets make learning FUN!!!
1. 2 students taking turns. Student #1 grab the cards with numbers 1-10 on them and shuffle them. On your desk is a + sign and a = sign.
2. Put the cards in a pile, face down. Student #2 pick a card off of the top of the deck. Place this card behind the = sign. This number is the number you need to use the black and red counters to add up to.
3. Work Together.
4. Student #1 Gather all the black counters and set them in front of you.
5. Student #2 Gather all the red counters and set them in front of you.
6. Student #1 you will be putting your black counters to the left of the + sign. Student #2 you will be putting your red counters to the right of the + sign and before the = sign.
Example: B + R = CARD
 7. Now figure out how many of your black and red counters you will need to equal the number on the card. Remember, work together:)
8. Notice how many black counters + red counters it takes to add up to the number drawn.
9. On a dry erase board at your desk, Student #2 write down the equation.
10. Student #1 it&#39;s time to move the black and red counters to opposite spots. Simply switch them.
11. Student #2 write down this new equation on the dry erase board underneath your first equation.
12. Does the equation still make sense? Is the answer still the same? Your answer should be, YES!!!
13. Great Job!!! Now clear the counters, wipe off the board, and start again!!
14. HAVE FUN
