My School-From-Home Workbook! (Day 41 - Thursday, June 4th, 2020) by Mark Giraldi

I will be sending a new one of these each school morning to your parent's e-mail! It'll contain all of our schoolwork for the day. Any assignment submissions can be turned in through our class site (Edmodo). You should aim for one hour of schoolwork each school day! Don't forget about Ms. Garbett's weekly French work (posted on her Brightspace site), which you can access through your BYOD page (https://byod.peelschools.org/), and Mr. Bieman's Music page, which you can access through Google Classrooms (https://classroom.google.com/).

'Inferring' Read and Respond!

This week we're going to be reviewing key Language terms used to break down/analyze narratives (whether in written stories or film)! Our third one is 'Inferring/Inferencing', which takes clues from a story and has the reader/viewer figure out for themselves (using these clues and their own knowledge to come up with a conclusion)!

Below there's an example we used earlier this year on a short story called 'The Case of the Murdered Husband'. If you don't remember it (or the 'Must Sees' of an Inference), check it out again! You can also re-read the story from the Padlet link.

After reviewing what an 'Inference' needs, read one of the following short stories below! There's five options, each with an Inference question at the end. Try and solve the Inference question using clues from the story (and knowledge from your own experiences)! If you don't want to read, there's a real-life inferring activity also linked, called 'The Lost Colony of Roanoke Mystery'. Watch it and tell me what you think happened to this lost colony, using clues from the story and your own ideas!)

INFERRING REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT
What inference can you take from the story you chose? You'll be writing it out in a response (either voice recorded, written by hand with a picture/scan taken, or typed up using your choice of a variety of online programs), including...

- fours clues from the text/yourself
- explain how these clues support your inference

I've attached a graphic organizer below to help you, along with an electronic link!

Please turn in your work in our Language Arts section on Edmodo!
