Rome's republic is a tripartite government (3 different parts).
Those three parts are the Magistrates (Consuls), Senate, and Assembly & Tribunes.

They used a system of checks and balances between the three parts of government so no one branch had too much power.

Over time Rome's Republic fell and an Empire took place.

Ruled with Pompay and Crassus for 10 years peacfully.
Pompay wanted to rule by himself, the senators ordered Caesar to give up his power so Pompay could rule. Cesar refused.
Cesar's army defeated Pompay who was then killed in Egypt. The senators then became angry with Cesar and killed him in 44 BC.
