In the past I have used this type of learning by reflecting on what I have learned. For example, in class when the teacher read something out of the book us as a class would stop and think about what was said.

Another way I have used this technique is by applying the material to my own life and establish goals for myself.

My teacher put us in groups of three and gave us a topic to debate about.

In the “authentic” learning example above, students “learn by doing." In one of my classes last year when learning about the scientific method the teacher allowed us to do an experiment and test our hypothesis. After we tested the hypothesis we would write up, present, and defend the findings to a panel of teachers and students.

Another example of this is in another class in the past we got to observe a classroom of students and practice how we would teach them we had to write up a "mock" lesson plan.
