Fort Caroline was the first French colony.  Some Spanish moved to St. Augustine.  They then got into conflict. The Spanish won the war and took over the fort.

Gators live in most lakes and swamps in Florida. They also live in the Everglades.There are over 1 million Gators in Florida.

Immigrants are people who come from all over the world. The most immigrants come from  Cuba to Florida. People come to get a better life and good jobs.

Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida by population. Jacksonville is the 14th largest city in the US by population. Fort Caroline is located in Jacksonville.

Manatee protection started in 1893. During cold months manatees swim to the springs where its warm. Manatees attract many tourists to Florida.

In the 1800's & 1900's they mostly used trains to get around. The trains ran on coal.  Henry Flagler built a big railroad in Florida.

Plantation owners in Florida counted on their slaves. The slaves tried to run to Spanish Florida.  States rights supported slavery in Florida.

In Florida we have a lot of tourists. They come to see our theme parks and beaches. People also come because of  the warm weather.

Unemployed means without a job.  A lot of people were unemployed during the Great Depression. Everyone was poor because they were unemployed.

In the 1960's the south was ordered to integrate, but they didn't want to.   Eventually they did.  It all worked out well. 

The  Wet lands are  home to many birds and animals. Wet lands are where water sits on

the surface of part or all of the year.  Swamps and marshes are also in wet lands. 

The Everglades are a region of wetlands. The Everglades are one of the only places in the world where you can see both crocodiles and alligators. The  Everglades is home to many Floridians.

Oceans are all around Florida.  Florida is a peninsula. The ocean is home to many sea creatures and coral reefs.

Land booms are when land goes up in price. Land booms were common back in the 1800s and 1900s. They were also common during the Great Depression.

The pioneers were at the very first Thanksgiving.  Pioneers used wagons to get around. The men worked in blacksmiths.

Spanish and Cuban immigrants went to Ybor City to work in factories. In the factories someone would read to them because they couldn't read. The person read newspapers and books to the workers.

Henry Flagler was a rich man. He was very kind. He built railroads in Florida. After he went to St.

Augustine, he found out his daughter was going to have a baby.  When she had her baby, it died. Then a few weeks later she died.  After they died, he built a church in their honor. D

The zoo is another lForida tourist attraction.   Many people come to see all the animals.  The zoo is a fun place for the tourists.

N.A.S.A is a space program.  It was formed in 1958.  NASA does research on space and other planets like Mars.

Kenney Space Center is a very attractive place. On July16,1969, the Apollo11 Spaceship took off at Kenedy Space Center. It was going to the moon.
