Black people have been oppressed by white people for the longest time. White people used their “superiority” to oppress blacks. For example whites would report black people to the police for no legal reason and then police would shoot a colored person because they “feared for their life”. White privilege even became the normal, bandages were the color of white people's skin. This relates to TEWWG because after the hurricane deceased whites were built coffins and deceased blacks were thrown in a pit. His family had nothing and so she looked at them to have nothing at all, no skills, no work. She then traveled to his house with her family and say that his brother had made a beautiful basket, she then realized his family is the same as hers just less fortunate than her own. She then traveled to the United States for college adn found herself rooming with an american woman who felt pity for her. The american woman thought she had nothing, thought she couldn’t speak english or use a stove. She immediately stereotyped her based on where she was from. Just because her skin was darker and she was from africa the american girl figured she had nothing. Power is dominated by a woman in a black household, most likely the oldest black woman, woman hold all the power is black families. With the power of identity you can do things that other people don't think they can do. Stevenson is trying to question the justice system and a lot if it has to do with blacks and the percent of blacks and children that are in prison. He says that america is the only country to be able to sentence 13 year old children to die in prison. He doesn’t question if people deserve to die for the crimes they’ve committed he questions if we have the right to kill them. White actors did this to make fun of and oppress black actors. Soon to follow black actors had no option but to follow the trend of blackface and act with the grease paint on their face. This idea of trying to find new ways to oppressed and make fun of blacks with no consequence is yet again called White Privilege. Blackface was just a new way for white people to act superior to blacks. This relates to the text of What is White Privilege, Really? because both talk about how whites oppressed blacks.

She was taught she is too insignificant to be acknowledged. She says she has been “murdered” meaning that no one cares about her feelings or what she has to say. She says no one else cares about what she says then other blacks. She feels oppressed by white people because they don't care about her because she's black. She doesn't get to explain her feelings but white people can say anything they want. She is taught that she doesn't feel a thing and that she is not even human. All because she has been oppressed by whites. This relates to Blackface: A Cultural History Of A Racist Art Form because the goal of white people was to oppress the blacks with blackface.

Americans have been getting paid by their “social class” for many years now, but a social class is nothing more than a label based on where you live and wealthy or poor you are. In European countries there is no correlation between life expectancies of rich versus poor people, but in the United States the poorer the person is the less chance they have of living a long life. In America the top 20% richest people in america are 8.5 times richer than the poorest 20% of people in America, which is ultimately affecting the life expectancy, teenage birth rates, imprisonments, mental health including drug and alcohol addiction, and many more. Countries with the richest and poorest 20% closer to each other have a much lower chance for all those examples. They have no correlation between wealth and life expectancy and they have much lower scores for the rest. He talks about how he went to a good public school that was made from his town in michigan because they had a good economy from the automotive industry. He talks about how he flew first class to china for his job that he got from going to Michigan University and got many glasses of champagne on the flight as well as at the hotel. He then talks about a conversation he had with a friend when he  came back to New York and how he was treated much differently in the states then he was in China. His friend asked him if his flight there was crowded. He simply did not know the answer because he was flying first class. Another friend told him how he was sending his six year old daughter to private school for $30,000 a year. Mike was astonished because she was going to be learning things at six years old that he didn't learn until college, but $30,000 a year was what everyone was spending to send their child to a good school to get a good education. What he was trying to point out is that these children that come from high class families get their lives handed to them and that children from the lower class communities have to work hard to be able to even go to college.
