Firmware update is necessary as user can get the most latest firmware for any of his device. When user try to update the firmware for his Brother printer then he has to keep in mind , few important things.

Keep a back up of the most essential data as updating process may delete few files like log files, notes etc.

The printer should be connected with the same computer where the user is updating the firmware. It should not be in sharing.
