When she was a toddler, her mother took her to a child pediatrician and that was the first time she heard the word "transgender". She was happy to finally hear a word that described how she felt.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Since Jazz was starting male puberty, she chose to get hormone blockers to give her time to figure out what she wanted to do with her body because she is still so young. The hormone blocker she got was an implant in the arm. It was a long process for her family to receive the implant in the mail and to find a surgeon who was willing to operate on her. The book states, "...I was finally ready to get that little sucker implanted under my skin"(93).</div>]]></description>

She was also the youngest person to ever receive this award. Jazz was flown to New York to give her first really big speech. While walking into the auditorium she walked down the red carpet for the first time as well. Jazz was asked by a reporter, "You're transgender? I never would have been able to tell"(119). She went to a doctor who told her than it's likely that the hormone blockers that were put in her a year ago, are now interfering with her body's growth and mind. Jazz and her mom decided it was time to take a dose of estrogen to start developing parts of the female body and brain like the rest of her classmates. This worked making her overall happier and more comfortable with herself. </div>]]></description>
