"It's a structured space that gives students the opportunity to self-regulate..."

I really like the idea of a Peace Corner and would like to create one for next year. I feel like self-regulation can be easily done in the Peace Corner when it is modelled properly. I can see the benefit of the Mind Jar to help students refocus and let go of negative thoughts. Mindful coloring could also be a good activity, although I would put a timer for the coloring as some students would spend lots of time coloring in the Peace Corner. The cootie catcher is also a great tools to offer ideas of what to do when students need time in the Peace Corner. Perhaps ideas written on popsicle sticks could also serve the same purpose as the cootie catcher.

By far, this last chapter is actually the best one for me from this whole book. It introduces the concept of creating a 'Peace Corner" in your classroom. It walks you through how to set one up and great ideas on what can be integrated into your 'Peace Corner". Guidance is given to teach the kids on the purpose and how to use it according to simple but effective rules. I certainly want to try to find space in my classroom for some sort of "Peace Corner" in the near future.
But what I love best about all of the great ideas is the concept of creating a "Mind Jar" . What is so interesting to me with this idea is how useful and simple it can be in helping students settle their busy minds. Not only can it be used as a visual timer for mindful breathing, it provides a concrete representation of their busy and chaotic minds. I think it is a genius idea! I cannot wait to create one and use it in my classroom.

I love the idea of a Peace Corner. It could be arranged with the religion corner. It would give students opportunities to engage in their practices of self-regulation. The ideas are great on how to introduce and manage the Peace Corner. I made the Cootie Catcher with them and they really enjoyed the activity.

In my kindergarten class, I do have a ‘’calm/peace chair’’ that students can go to if they feel like they need to be self regulated and calm down. This is really important to have in the classroom, since it’s helping the kids to understand their emotions and to name what they are feeling. Having that kind of place in our classroom is helping students understand that we are letting them know it’s okay to have those big feelings and to take time to process them. I think it could also be a good project for the class to do and create together. It’s normal if kindergarten kids don't use the peace corner independently, but after a while they will use it on their own. As a teacher, I also encourage them to use it, when I see that they need to self regulate.

I have loved the idea of a Peace Corner ever since I first heard about it a few years ago. We have one in our classroom, and we call it the Coin du Calme. Students are aware that they can choose to sit or work there for a place that has fewer distractions and is set apart from the rest of the class. Something that I would like to add to this space is the Self-Care anchor chart. This makes so much sense! The various ways of doing mindful breathing along with visuals would really support students who need to use these techniques and it also normalizes using mindful breathing on a daily basis.
