Slab built plate

I rolled a slab out using low fire clay. Cut it into a square using a ruler and a needle tool. I laid it on a round dome mold and used a sand bag to help the clay form around the dome. After it had dried for a while i removed it. I then used a dole pencil to carve the lines. I fired it with under glaze. When it came out i used black under glaze to stain the piece, wiped it off and then but clear glass on it.

If I could change anything about this piece it would be the sharpness of the lines. It could of been cleaned up alittle more and I would of liked the blue to pop out more.

What I like about the piece is that The simplicity of it speaks volumes. I like to think that the line full of lines kinda plays tricks on your eyes.

1. I make art to express ideas that I have in my head. For me creative pieces allows me to express my feelings and blow off some steam. Mr.Selfs room is a safe space for me.
2. I am generally a slab builder. Slab building allows me to have more control of my artwork. Im also very simplistic. I like lines and texters because they posses a form of purity. I am a big fan of nature. I tend to gravitatate to calm colors like blue.
3. Growing up i was very shy. I had a lot of confidence issues and art was always a way for me to escape that. Since taking pottery I have been able to express that in a more 3- D way.

This piece was made using a slab of high fire clay. I measured the slab and made a rectangle. Once the rectangle is cut I rolled another slab. I formed the rectangular slab into a tub and then attached it to the other slab. I scored the bottom and used slip to form the two pieces into one. I chose to keep the seem for astetic purposes. I used a needle tool to carve out a path of different shapes across the piece. I used a different glaze on each piece while making the height of each piece different.

If I could change something I would change the attention to detail. The rim isn’t all the same bight and there are clay crumbs in the holes that make it sharp.

I like the way the glaze ran across the piece. The holes look smooth from the outside which gives a soothing look.

I formed the rectangular slab into a tub and then attached it to the other slab. I scored the bottom and used slip to form the two pieces into one. I blended the seem to make it look continues. I traced triangles around the top. I used a needle tool to cut out the clay triangles.

If I could change anything I would change the rim. It is uneven and there are cracks throughout. The glaze didn’t turn out as well as expected and there’s a large brown streak at the bottom.

I like how the triangles are focused at the top giving a cool allusion when light is inside.
