In our second meeting, we introduced our topics to each other and disccussed which part is the overlap of our own proposals. We found that we have a common interest, which is mental health. Besides, we all like Holly's idea of making a interactive exhibition with virtual characters as the narrator who guides the audience go through the exhibition. For the roles, as someone who has experience in design and visual work, I was chosen to be responsible for the visual side of our whole project.

This is an online exhibition tracing the evolution of women’s healthcare from the witch trials to modern medicine, revealing how shifting politics and the fight for women’s rights have shaped access to healthcare. Through this journey, we uncover how historical biases and political struggles still impact reproductive rights, mental health, and bodily autonomy today. By connecting past to present, this exhibition empowers viewers to understand the roots of these modern issues and join the push for a future where women’s health and rights are fully realized and protected.

Often through the tragedies women experience, progress can be made in the medical field, as can be seen with the Thalidomide scandal of the 1950’s and 60’s. The drug Thalidomide was prescribed to pregnant mothers as a treatment for morning sickness, not knowing it potentially caused serious birth defects. This had a lasting impact on the physical and mental health of these children, and on their mothers who felt that they were to blame.

However, it also provided an opportunity for changes in medical testing, and criteria for distribution of potentially harmful medicines. Click to hear about the emotional impact Thalidomide had on one mother.
