My main concern for the Code of Conduct is to have consistent use of the Time Out Rooms, Corrective Learning Centers, etc... in the buildings. Restorative Practices have never been formally implemented into our schools. No training has been given and there are buildings who use "Restorative Practices" to discipline students. The perception by the classroom teachers is no consequences for behavior are given for violations to the Code of Conduct. It is the Union's belief that Restorative Practices keeps students accountable for their behavior, and then works with the student to find the underlying reason for his or her behavior. Once that is worked on, a plan is developed with student, teacher and administrator to approve behavior. The Code of Conduct's phrasing of "at the discretion of Elementary Administrator" can be interpreted that the Code of Conduct does not have to be adhered to.
